Long ago, there was a race of beings we call humans. Though it has been said that they were constantly at war, half of the time it was with themselves. They did not even have a very big empire. But somehow, today, most of our myths seem to have them involved. The most popular of which is the Almanac Galactica. You will never be able to figure out what exactly it is. But one thing is certain, it is said to contain all of the information one would want in the universe. It contains history, geography, biology, maps of almost anywhere. All of the strengths and weaknesses of everything the humans encountered on their journey through space is contained inside of it. The being who owns the Almanac Galactica is the most powerful being in the universe. It is even said that the being who owns it can change the past itself. No one actually knows if the humans existed, no one could find any record of them, but that doesn't matter. With the most accurate and plentiful information in the universe, real or not, people are more than willing to fight over it. And there have been countless wars over the mere topic alone.
I am making my own tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) like Dungeons and Dragons, and Shadowrun. Except, this will take place in space. When I played the Dungeons and Dragons for the first time, I loved the genre. For those unfamiliar with TTRPGs you are basically coming together with friends and telling a story by playing a game. One player is the Game Master (GM) which is narrator and referee, and the other players are characters. Each players actions are spoken. This means you can really do anything inside of your character. All actions are determined as successes or failure by the role of a dice or some rules like that. Its a type of RPG that, with effort, could actually be played in chat rooms. While I do want to see one being played here, I wouldn't suggest it.
I have an idea of the title, Almanac Galactica, but the name is subject to change. It will be a space TTRPG. At this point, I'm not sure if it will be sci-fi or science fantasy, but it will take place post-humanity. I have an idea of some of the rules, especially how space combat works, but nothing is really finalized, nor in a playable state. If one were to play the game now, a lot of the rules would need to be created by the GM. I don't even have the character sheet down. But, I do have some race and class ideas.
I want to here from you: what are your experiences with tabletop role-playing games? If you've played one, what was your greatest triumph? What do you think about me making a tabletop RPG?
