As we've all admitted to ourselves, this community is growing old and slowly fading away.
The only way we can possibly stop this is to evolve the site and adapt it to today's lifestyles.
Back in DSiPaint's heyday, kids didn't have iPhones and tablets; heck, the iPad didn't exist when DSiPaint launched and the original DS Opera SDK came a year before the iPhone! The DSi was all they had (maybe an iPod Touch, if they were lucky) and so a website where they could chat to others and post content and play games - all for free - was revolutionary.
Today, however, almost everyone has a smartphone and younger and younger kids are joining Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other such huge incorporated social networks, playing so-so, uninspired free-to-play games like Candy Crush and Farmville (well, probably not Farmville, that's "/sooooooo/ 2008".
Most kids 11+ are peer-pressured into being one of the "cool" Xbone/PS4 gamers, playing FPSes like Call of Duty and the like.
Nintendo is just not cool any more - I myself occasionally get mocked for having a New3DS, even when I point out that it's actually the most powerful major handheld and has a revolutionary 3D screen.
I quote: "Nintendo is for little kids."
Though many of us disagree, that's society's (mis)perception of Nintendo.
And so, as changing that is a very long distance out of our reach, we must adapt to this new lifestyle.
If we can't beat 'em... let's join 'em.
Hull & I are working in a new design for the site, which is being rolled out bit by bit, as I'm sure you will have noticed, but I want YOUR ideas.
Where would YOU like to see SDK go?
Leave your ideas down in the comments, whether they be about the new design, maybe ideas for something like an app, anything.
SDK isn't quite dead yet. And it won't be on my watch.
I like the idea of turning this into both a news and community site as well as adding it to the eShop. I think the site really could have a future if the effort is put in to make it a lot less outdated and to drive more users in.
okay, so a big one that I Dion see is an android app as well as push notifications if do able. I like the swear filter idea because it's just stupid now at this point and meeting the sites yes, I use dsipaint because it does everything better as far as looks and I'm just too familiar with it, but meeting everything to run on each system automatically would be great(I just realized that dsi and Wii are running such old versions if opera that the sites may not autocinfigur lol), chat event would be great, and advertising on ign or something would be great.
Maybe try and get Chatrooms active again?I remember aaaages ago when I was in like the 5th grade a few of my friends were on here and the chatrooms had a ton of people in them. I know it'd be kinda hard with the whole not many people get online anymore but I dunno.

Paint's best possible future is as a site closely linked to Nintendo, not as a site for 3DSes, but a site for Nintendo fans in general. One singular site that shares the users and blogs of the main database is a must, and games developed by HullBreach should be extremely related to the Paint community in general.
Paint should be like a fan-made Miiverse kind of, as in a community by Nintendo fans, for Nintendo fans. Games made for the site and developed for the site should be things the community gets to see and be a part of.
That's definitely essential. Maybe HullBreach could make an app for the 3DS? Or perhaps I could and have Hull test on a devkit (don't actually have a developer 3DS atm) & publish it (we're both Nintendo licensed developers).
An idea i have is different sections for different blogs there could be a Review section where we review videogames and whatnot there could be a news section and heck you could even have a dramalert of SDK
Another idea I have is to merge Wiioperasdk, DSiPaint, and 3DSPaint into a single site. We could call it HullBreach Paint or HullBreach Gaming. There's a couple benefits if we do this.
1, less sites to code. I've seen Wiioperasdk's version a bit broken in some places. Some image links are broken, a certain Shiek chatroom doesn't work in Wii's version. I've also heard the register function is broken too. Point is, certain parts of the functions in certain versions of this community is broken and it'd be easier if have to worry only coding 1 domain name over 3.
2, less domain name cost. I'm not sure if having multiple domain names would be expensive but if we have just 1 site for this community, it might be cheaper for Hull to keep the community open.
I had been hoping Hull would promote the site like how he did back in 2009-2010 but where would the best place to promote this site to a demographic of 13-15 year olds? Miiverse could have been a good place but because of the no external link rule, Miiverse is out of the question. Flipnote Hatena was a perfect place because it had the demographics and there was no external link rule (that's why I'm here today). If we can't promote the site like in the past, then I have a couple ideas.
We could expand Paint to be some kind gaming review website like IGN, GameSpot, etc. It sounds like an outrageous goal but Paint has chatrooms and few in-browser games . As far as I know, I don't think there are chatrooms in those sites.
Another idea I have is making this site work with Pokemon Go. I'm not sure how but I'll think of something later.
Also, maybe have the rules be loosen a bit. Most admins including me have decided to stop banning for petty things like profanity. Banning someone here now is like beating a near dead mule in the middle of nowhere. Amusing but bad for us. If this is still a family oriented site, then I suggest adding a mature filter that can be deactivated in the settings. The mature filter would work like this: if it's on (by default), all profanity would appear censored to the user. If off, the profanity will not be censored to the user. Or, the profanity filter could outright just ignore the entire post that contains profanity.
1) Yes, promoting this site is essential. Following up to my reply to FancyPants' post, if we/Hull/I/Eiji Aonuma make an official 3DS eShop app (free/low price) we can easily drive new users to the community and discuss it on Miiverse as it is an app.
2) This seems a bit of a stretch. I get where you're coming from but I feel that we should stick to what we're good at, so don't focus mainly on the reviews. Plus, our very own Lord Waffle King is starting up his own site atm (coded by yours truly) at lordwaffleking.com, too.
3) I'm confused, LOL.
4) Yeah, people are growing up and seeing swearing all over the place already. We can ask users whether they want to turn the swear filter on at signup (leave it on for guests) and have it disabled for all current users? (checkbox in My Settings, of course)
