"Ugh..." My eyes open to slits as I try to sit up, but fall right back down. Those stupid wolf things had bit me on the leg. I moan, and stand back up. When I put weight on it, a sharp pain goes through my leg, but I ignore it. My friends are still unconscious on the ground. I put out my hand, and then, BOOM! Okay, maybe it was a little boom, I just burned their shoes.
"Ow!" Zeke immediately got up and started stamping the fire off his feet, while Scruff and Glaine do the same. I laugh hard, the look on their faces.
"Ugh! This hurts," Zeke complained. I saw his injury. It was bleeding a little still, but it was purplish. Ew, not good. In fact, all of ours look like that.
Zeke turns around to help Glaine and Scruff with their, Uhm fire shoes. Oopsie. But when he turns I see... Two little stumps on his back. On either side of his spine. Are they... No, they couldn't be. But those wolfs had wings, and had bit us. Maybe their fangs had some enhancement to give us wings? Okay... This was getting weird.
"What the heck is happening?!" I shriek. Zeke, Glaine, and Scruff turn to look at me, confused.
"What?" They demanded. I can't belive what was happening. It was just so, so weird.
"Can you please turn around for me?" Without questions, they turned. I examined all their backs. Yup, wing stumps, that's for sure. I wonder if I had some. They had ripped their shirts. Weird.
"Alright," I huff. "Check me." They turn, and then I do too. Three, two, one. I counted silently, and after one, I hear gasps.
"So, what do you see?" I say nervously, turning around to look at them. Glaine looks at me like she's about to go crazy.
"You have wing stumps. That's what we have, right? This is really, really weird." She says. I nod at her.
"Well, they'll come in use. But it might take a month or two for them to grow. They look like they're growing fast." I say, trying to keep my voice steady. That's just so so weird. I need to stop saying that! Ugh.
They all nod, unable to speak. This was well, the most bizarre day of my life.
"Well, we need to get to somewhere safer, where we can't get hurt again. Besides, I don't want to have and extra set of wings." I finished jokingly. Zeke manages a small smile. Without any words, me and my friends set off, walking.
"Guys, we need food," I say, about two hours later. My stomach growls for the nth time.
"Yeah, I sure am hungry. There's a town about 10 minutes away," Scruff gestures to a sign which says, 'turn right for food'. The sign said it would be ten minutes. Of driving, yeah. That was out of the question. So then it would take about 20-25 minutes to get there instead. I groaned. More walking. If only these wings could hurry up and grow.
So, more walking. About 25 minutes later, we're sitting at a table, in the nearest fast food place, which was Wing Stop.
"Uhhh... Aren't the people gonna notice our wing stump thingies?" I whisper quietly. We had already ordered, anyways.
"I think they could just be... Halloween costumes?" Zeke whispers back to me.
"We are way past Halloween!" I say, facepalming myself. I see the waitress give us our food. It smells soo, soo, good. Until I realized.... I don't have any money.
"Guys, we got a problem... I have no money..." I say softly. The waitress is still staring at us, hand out, waiting for money.
"I'll cover that." Zeke takes out a wallet, which I never knew he had. He pulls out a twenty, and hands it to the waitress. We stand up, because we had agreed to leave right after we got food.
"Let's get the heck out of here." Glaine says, and we walk out the door. Thanks, Zeke. Glad you had a wallet. I silently thank him. He smiles and nods, hearing me think.
