Statistic, Stat for short, is a value which determines certain aspects of battles in the games.
Every Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses are determined by six Base Stats. These Base Stats are HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Pay close attention to these stats to make your Pokemon excel in one area over another. Two other stats can also be found, Evasion and Accuracy. Instead of being part of a Pokemon's Base Stats, they are tied to the Pokemon's Moves.
·HP determines the Hit Points of a Pokemon. Hit Points are the amount of health points each Pokemon has until they faint. When they get hit by an attack, their HP decreases.
·Attack determines the physical power of a Pokemon. Attacks like Body Slam will rely on the Attack Stat for the damage it deals.
·Defense determines how much damage a Pokemon can resist from Physical Attack.
·Special Attack determines the special power of your Pokemon. Attacks like Flamethrower will rely on the Special Attack Stat for the damage it deals.
·Special Defense determines how much damage a Pokemon can resist from Special Attacks.
·Speed determines the place a Pokemon will strike in Battle. Since Pokemon Battles are turn based, Speed determines if your Pokemon will attack first or last. This may not be a huge deal in Single Battles, but if it's three on three, one of the Pokemon will attack sixth, yikes!
·Accuracy determines the ability to hit a Pokemon. The initial value at the start of any battle is 100%. All Attacks have an accuracy stat which ranges from 100% to 30%. The less accurate attacks are usually much more powerful. Some moves (such as Aerial Ace) will always hit no matter what your Pokemon's Accuracy is!
·Evasion determines the ability of a Pokemon to dodge an attack. The initial value at the start of any battle is 100%. A Pokemon's Evasion can be increased or decreased in battle to evade a Pokemon's Attacks, just like if you were to lower a Pokemon's Accuracy.
Well, that simply covers two more aspects of a battle, as always, Base Stats and Moves get a little more complex, but by now you should know that the ideal competitive Pokemon have high stats along with a many strong and useful moves they can learn. And also, that some turns rely on lucky, although skillful players know when to take risks. That's all for today, as always leave questions in the comments and if I missed something just let me know. I'd be editing the information if necessary.
Hey that's awesome, I encourage to play, over 800 pokemon and 800 moves, items and abilities give us countless of combinations to use in a battle and it's just so fun to see what strategies your opponent throws at you.
Anyway, I'll probably get into this more in later Blogs, but as a guy who's been at this stuff (albeit non-Competitively) for a VERY long time, I prefer to not get stuck when my opponent throws up a Wall.
(Try using a Chansey as a Wall against me, and you will most certainly regret it, lol!)
Dang, I just realized that everything I said is WAY ahead of where Dedode is in these Blogs, lol!
Uh.. it depends, that's why Finrod stated that you can run a MIXED set with some Pokemon. Would you put Bug Buzz on a Scizor (130 atk/ 55 sp.atk)? Waste of moveslot I'd say.
You're right, but you obviously didn't get the point of what I was saying, lol! (Don't sweat it, I'm used to that.)
I wouldn't even consider doing that with a Scizor, because it's EBST running a purely Special Moveset would be 444, with a Mixed one it would be 500 (the same as it's BST), and with a purely Physical one it would be 534.
(You should probably re-read my EBST Blog again, and do the math yourself to see what I mean.)
I give some examples of this in the 2nd portion of my EBST Blog, and I strongly encourage you to look at them, and see what I mean.
I'll give one example right here, though.
Black Kyurem has a Base Attack Stat 170, while it's Base Sp. Attack is only 120, so should it only know Physical Moves?
Well, based upon my EBST concept, the result of this would be an EBST of 696, which means that it would be best served by using a Mixed Moveset, although going with a purely Physical one wouldn't hurt it too much.
(Bear in mind this isn't taking it's Movepool into account, which would obviously be an even stronger incentive to go with a Mixed Moveset, at least in Gens 5-7.)
Max EVs at Level 50 will always yield 31.5 in the respective Stat, and Max IVs will always yield 15.5.
(Although Nature does multiply the effects of these.)
I kinda tried to explain this (in a much less technical way) in my Stat Calculation Blog, only to have my Blog rejected on a bogus charge of misinformation. (I'll probably redo that Blog eventually, though.)
