Hey everyone today I'm going to review my favorite Call of Duty on the Nintendo DS. I hope this review can get you guys interested enough to play it.
Here's my copy
Okay, I have played EVERY other Call of Duty DS game before playing this one. This game was released in 2008 and is the second CoD game to be released on the DS. The developer, N-Space, had the goal to improve BIG TIME, after the release of the terrible Call of Duty 4. I was so damn interested by this one mainly because World War 2 is such a cool topic, and to see N-Space's inprovements.
So the story is in the perspectives of 3 soldiers from different factions. You play as USMC Private Rook, Soviet Private Dimarkurato, and SAS Private Owen Pasley. Personally I prefer Rook, mainly because of his parts in the campaign are jungle terrain. Owen's levels are usually towns and farmlands deep within hostile Nazi territory. Dimarkurato's levels are industrial areas and destroyed towns. Compared to the last game, the environments are highly detailed. I really enjoyed how N-Space made unique and curvy environments instead of flat surface areas like the last game.

Okay so this game is in the 1st person view (obviously). It consists of a 25 level campaign, multiplayer, and challenge mode. Not much content, but it is WAY more than what Call of Duty 4 had to offer. You can now look for hidden collectibles spread throughout the campaign. Each collectible adds a fragment of a secret blueprint that can be accessed in the War Room on the main menu. There is now an acheivement system which also diversifies the way you play. If you want the acheivement "Pugilist", you would have to get many knife kills. You earn a badge depending on how many acheivements you have earned.

When it comes to weapons, this game had MAJOR improvements. In CoD 4, all the aim down sites were 2D Jpegs thrown on the screen. Now, the ADS are all 3D just like the guns. They bob side to side as you move, showing off the details of the weapon. There are now more catagories of guns. There is now 5 pistols instead of 1 which brings more varitey when playing multiplayer. Thankfully weapon sounds aren't reused like CoD 4. In CoD 4, every submachine gun sounded EXACTLY the same. And now, turrets can be used by grabbing the machine gun part off the ground and mounting it on a wall. There are now reload animations instead of the gun going off screen when running out of ammo. These are all great improvements that make the game incredibly better than the last game.
There are now diverse minigames throughout the game. You can follow morse code to send messages to command, fire mortars at enemy positions, disable bombs and landmines, and patch up wounded allies. I personally prefer these, because Call of Duty 4 only had a bomb setup and disable minigame that was in EVERY LEVEL.
Weapon list:
Thompson, 1911, M1 Garand, Springfield, Browning Automatic, Type 100, Sten MK 2, MK 6 webley, MP40, STG-44, PPSH-41, Tokarev TT-33, Kar 98, Type 99, Nambu, Walther, Lee Enfield, Flamethrower, Motar, Panzerschreck, mounted gun
Although this is a great game, there are a few problems. The 3D modeling in this game has downgraded compared to the last game. The character models all look like they're origamis. If you inspect them at some angles, some parts of them disappear. For example, the US marine's shirt collar. The movement animations are also very robot-like. they walk in straight lines during cutscenes, so it looks like some cheap CGI kids show. The ending of the game is also very lame. Compared to the World At War on PS3 and PS2, there are not many enemies or challenges. Some of the other levels were WAY harder than the last.
Even if the game has these problems, it is still quite enjoyable. The soundtrack and voice acting really sets the mood playing this game. I had no moments of confusion when playing, because of how interested I was. I was so happy finishing this game, and I'm sure you would feel the same satisfaction when on the credits screen. I give this game a 8/10. It was enjoyable, action packed, and full of surprises. I guess thats it for now, PEACE!
