You don't have to do this, if there's no connection given in mysql_query it'll use the last made connection, so just remove these variables.

I think he wants to do one of these things:

echo $_SESSION['username'];

↑That will show your username.

$_SESSION['username'] = $_POST['username'];
?>
↑That will save the username you submitted via a formular in the Session var username.
