You can only see people whom of which you have added on your "Friend activities". In order to message someone also, you have to have added them personally too.

It isn't so much of a problem, just part of the past update.

Don't argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

The Friend Activities module has always only showed members that you had added--never had anything to do with members who had added you. To enable messaging with another user freely, both parties must add each other and accept each other.

I don't think it's a good idea that you have to actually add the person twice to send mail.

That's a misnomer. To simply mail someone, you need to add them, and they need to accept you. That also allows them to reply to your messages. If they want to start messages with you, they need to do the reverse.

So successfully adding someone only means that you can start messages with them, not vice versa unless they do the same with you.

When the system changed, it was initially confusing; hopefully I don't make it more so by this explanation.

The revamped friend system and the private feature were instituted because of repeated instances of problematic language and arguments occurring via profiles comments and mail messages.

The way the adding and accepting works is not problematic in my eyes, but more something that is not fully understood and that may need getting used to (although it has been this way for over nine months).

My friendlist reset on my a long while ago, and when I try to add the same friends again, I am still not allowed to see their status or mail them.

It seems they can, though. So basicaly I'm just stalked by.

If you accept someone's friend request then they should be on your 'Who I added' list. That person would obviously add you back if you accepted the request and added them.

I'm very sure that no friendlists were reset by the friend system, new or old. Maybe you're referring to how the list first got split up.

If names seem to disappear from your list, then either you deleted them accidentally or the users declined your "add" (more likely, because the old system didn't show who added you).

If you accept someone's friend request then they should be on your 'Who I added' list.

That equates adding to accepting, and that defeats the purpose of having such a system relying on confirmation.

Once they add you and you add them you accept their friend request they accept yours, if you and you friend both know what your doing, it should be simple.
