Roleplaying in forums anyone?

Um, I have a question. Would roleplaying in the forums be a good idea? Now, before you say, "Thats what the roleplay chatrooms are for n00b!" I have a legitemet reason for asking this. Often times the roleplays on the chatrooms are 'random theme' roleplay, and if they do have an actual theme its still just random crap. In the forums, the creator of the thread could set down an actual story and it would stick to it. If the story doesn't sound intresting, you could just leave and none of your time would be wasted asking what the theme is.

If everyone who followed their dreams made it, we all would be famous.

Good question. I don't do too much RolePlay but they're aren't allowed in the forums. In this forum at least. I'll leave it up for discussion but generally RolePlay could be done in the Miscellaneous forum. If there was a RolePlay forum, then it would probably be easier to answer this and say yes.

Well, yea, I know it isn't allowed in this forum. This is about something site related so this thread goes here, but the roleplaying threads would be in the miscellaneous forum.

The reason roleplay is discouraged in the forums is because it is generally very difficult to properly setup in a simple forum system like this one; problems include intro confusion, character acceptability, inclusiveness, tendency for non-RPers to butt in, and the fact that the game has a tendency to become a chat-fest, among other things. Chatrooms, while much more impromptu, allow a simpler approach for easier participation and continuity.

If you can somehow set up a good RP while avoiding these issues, go for it. However, all RP attempts up to this point have failed to do so, and thus were either closed or abandoned.

RPs are prone to spam and randomness, and don't exactly encourage random intrusions when they aren't in a dynamic environment.

It's my job to help the next generation, and set a good example for them. And for that I'll gladly lay down my life.

Um, you mean thread right? or an intire board on the forums like This website, misclainious, and gaming? If its thread that you mean, I'll let someonen else start it, my 3ds won't let me lock my own threads. So, ok, lets see what happens!

An entire board dedicated to roleplaying would be nice--although I feel other subject(s) are more in-demand/needed. Still, I fear an RP board would just turn into mass chatting, a big undesirable here.

In all honesty, the chatroom roleplays are just random crap. Bullitin boards/forums allow actual stories to take place, as opposed to random themes... Hell, most of the themes are in the chatrooms are 'random' roleplaying is much more fun when there is an actual story.

I used to RP a lot on forums made specifically for that (I still do at times), and it's very structured and refined. On the other hand, as Limxzero pointed out, the current user base wouldn't know how to process it well, and mass random chatting would ensue.

In my opinion, the roleplays in the chatrooms can be controlled as long as it's interesting and fun. The random roleplays that I see go on are usually just people passing the time.

If you're looking for an actual story, start one up, see how it goes. Otherwise, there are tons of RP only forums out there that may pique your interest.

The button I carry around doesn't necessarily make things EASIER...

Yea, I am in one of those forums, well, kinda. Its not just for roleplaying, but its more than that. But people take time createing their roleplays and so they are good.

This. It also gives more time for people to 'describe' the roleplay a bit more, instead of waiting for what seems forever in the chatrooms. I know it since almost exactly the same, but still, member posts cant go if you refresh or anything.
Plus it could make the BB more active.

How can you forgive if you can't forget?

BB RPs....that sounds fun. I still get that fun feeling from RPing without having to talk to people. We should really give it a try. :D
