Somethin botherin me on the messwge system now.....

As it is now: Enhanced mode only allows messaging to users whom you have friended, while the dropdown menu mode only allows messaging to users who have friended you. There are other problems with the system, but that alone merits the likelihood of further improvements.

Device-wise: enhanced mode cannot and will not work on the DSi or Wii browsers due to script-handling limitations. Which is the reason why the simplified mode and mode toggle were made.

When the friend system got revamped over a year ago, its intent was to increase privacy, and to do this it only let users who added and accepted each other directly message. The structure was changed, and then again it wasn't. A bit later, messaging was made possible if just one request was accepted, independent of any request by the target friend.

Obviously neither instances matches the current situation with the friend system. I can produce no reason for why the freedom to message would be skewed on the basis of what device--DSi, 3DS, Wii, PC, whatever--happens to be used. How the system *should* be is very debatable, but how it should *not* be is considerably less so.

I figured out how to make it work on the DSi and Wii (DSi at least), use the javascript function void(0) on the + button click, not return false.

If someone adds you, and you dont add them, you can message them.

It's the other way around actually. User A can message User B if and only if A has added B and B has accepted A's request. And I am no fan of it.

You used to be able to talk to someone without them having to add you. You just had to have a message from them. You just hit reply and they were the one you were sending to. Now if you hit reply it erases the person and you have to go through your friends list on the drop down.
