What are some of your favorite indie games, or games made by an independant developer? It can be a game in an app for iOS, an Android Market app, a PC game, a Steam game, or anything!
Personally, some of my favorites are the ever-popular Minecraft, which is a sort of sandbox + Zelda + RPG, Terraria, Slender, Realm of the Mad God, and Spelunky.
Terraria is sort of a 2D Minecraft with added exploration + shoot 'em up purchasable from Steam. It's 10 USD.
Realm of The Mad God is a free huge semi-retro bullet-hell MMO with a ton of RPG elements.
Slender is a free horror game downloadable from playslender.net in which you, a silent protagonist, walk through a randomly-generated world looking for eight scraps of paper with hints about the game's only antagonist, Slender Man, on them. Whenever you find a scrap of paper, Slender Man will become more agressive and your "anxiety-level" will rise quicker. Pretty scary game, especially when you turn around in an inclosed space with the flashlight on and the Slender Man is staring straight at you with his blank face.
Spelunky is a kind of complicated sandbox/puzzler downloadable for free on the standalone website. It's pretty hard and needs a high screen resolution to play.
I also enjoy CAT PLANET, a lighthearted game where you, the Angel Kid, fly around a world full of interesting...cat-heads which will flash rainbow colors and start talking to you when you come near them. It can get pretty hard too, especially at the end.
Lone Survivor was AMAZING.
I think it was... £6.95? Something like that. On Steam.
It's like a full on psycological horror/thiller with really creepy gameplay.
