The prospective ability to rate Saviis seemed almost obvious when they were announced to be custom blog avatars a few years back. It didn't happen. The commenting on Saviis is used little, and having both comments and ratings would be a luxury. Still, if the plan to revamp paint albums (comments, pages, titles) ever happens, it would be ideal were the two apps' features not be too similar. Maybe accomplished by offering 1-10 scale rather than 1-5 stars, or just substituting ratings for comments. Savii ratings could be helpful for auctions, where one can view a rating before clicking the auction link. Noted, I expect there to be no rating leaderboards.
Of course the better question ought to be less about what can be added to Saviis--and more about when Saviis, which have been untouched since their beginning, will be updated.
I agree, with you on the suggestion that ratings should be substituted for comments on saviis. Although, instead of clicking on the savii and commenting as it is now, I think we should just be able to rate it from the album. The stars could be above or below the saviis picture.
However we really can't rush the update if saviis, Hull and Savant are probably very busy with other parts of this site and they have lives outside of this site. So, for now, the best thing to do is to patiently wait for the possible awesome savii things to come in the future.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary and those who don't.
Not sure exactly how ratings would fit in. Blogs have direct +/- buttons, while paintings have a full 1-5 star function. The whole rating thing would be overkill if every other item, e.g. threads, profiles, could be rated. Anonymous input on creative material is fine and productive, but it has to end somewhere. Perhaps it could be more similar to stars, except simpler: a 1-5 drop-down menu when clicking on individual Saviis, averaged out to a single decimal place (2.5/5.0), and a voted confirmation/graphic after voting.
It is true that skewed or malicious downvoting could be a potential problem. If the Savii ratings idea affects auctions and therefore personal gain, yes, fraudulent votes might ensue. However, on this site's other elements which use rating systems, it is not a pervasive problem. I would credit that largely to the smaller user base.
