What do you think the next DS will be like?

What do you think the next DS will have, if you think Nintendo makes one in the far future?

I think it would support Wii U graphics, for one.

I have no clue. Maybe it'll be a cross between one of the original 3DS models and the Wii U game Pad.

* Online Game Chat(or whatever) like with Wii U
* The ability to openly make apps for it, like the iDevices

Nintendo tends to take a nifty technology or design, then wow everyone by applying it to a handheld. Clamshell laptop design? GameBoy Advance SP. Touchscreens for phones? Nintendo DS. 3D television? Nintendo 3DS. And each one compounds on the previous. Maybe the next dual screen will take a leaf from those new-fangled Ultrabooks (convertible laptop ←→ tablet) and make the system fold in some way so it has modes for 1 screen and 2 screens. Better graphics and power are no-brainers as chip tech moves forward. A better question is whether Nintendo will abandon the game cartridge.

Well, it does a little, but not really. Though it is a good point that the GB SP was the beginning of the DS line.

What we need is a handheld with shoulder buttons that last.
Maybe a foldover protector for them so they're not exposed so much.

Revealed recently was a handheld design patented by Nintendo. It is similar to the 3DS, but lacks the familiar clamshell as the 2DS does. There are four slots which can be used for interchanging (swapping) around controls like an analog stick, directional pad, 3-button face, and 4-button face. None of this really means anything because it is just a design, but it could be a hint at things to come.

And that notion of an E3 hardware unveiling got shot down quickly. The 3DS platform is in the midst of its prime, and its successor realistically won't be expected for at least another two years.
