In a recent update, all users have been granted the abilty to lock, delete (and unsticky) bulletin board threads that they make. Previously, only moderators could do that, but a long way back, users could lock their own threads before it was abolished. Right now, most everyone should know locking is broken, though still it remains that users' power in theory over their own content has been expanded. I'd like to collect some opinions on this newest change before presenting my own.
The ability to lock and delete your own thread is convenient. This way, if you no longer need your board, you can just delete it. Or, if you want to leave your board up for reference or other peoples information, you can just lock it.
The only problem with locking it, though, is that people can still post even in locked bulletins, as you've said.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary and those who don't.
Although locking and deleting threads may be convenient, it may be harmful if someone writes something offensive and deletes it. It may be even more harmful if it goes unnoticed by a bulletin board admin.
Hopefully, the problem with locking threads will be fixed soon because there's no point in locking threads if they don't lock.
