The recent ebola outbreak happening in four West African countries has claimed a death toll of at least 887. Numerous organisations from numerous countries, including the United States, are providing humanitarian aid.
Believed to be the first American victim, Kent Brantly, a doctor involved with Samaritan's Purse, was sent to the US on Saturday. Nancy Writebol, an aid worker involved with SIM USA, was sent to the States this Tuesday. Both were working in Liberia where they contracted the deadly virus, and both remain at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. An experimental drug was administered to both patients who reportedly show signs of improved health.
Said hospital is specially housed with isolation units, which are necessary for containing such a volatile virus. Everything is filtered, and outgoing material is sterilized before being incinerated.
Although the American public is being reassured that no danger is present, there is a lot of outcry over the mere possibility of creating an outbreak on this continent.
US leaders have reiterated to worry about flu. Not ebola, as the outbreak of ebola anywhere is the US is highly unlikely, while the flu outbreak is a given. Did I mention that the flu kills thousands every year? Yeah? Didn't think so. Don't concern yourself with ebola.
