Are chatrooms dead ?

Hi,

I was wondering if chatrooms were dead...
I know I'm in France so there's a jet lag, but everytime I go to the chatrooms list, I only see up to 2 people and they often don't answer/disconnect fast.

A year ago, I would have made the claim of not-yet. Now, pretty much yes. Though there is still somewhat of a "peak" time for chatroom activity around midnight GMT/UTC time, it's just a few chatterers and usually some of the same ones day in and day out. The chat delay is understandable because it is slow to type on a 3DS or DSi; and so the only really speedy typers are using computers.

I think Paint became a non-real time "social network". It was real time a while ago. But it isn't no more.

A short and simple answer to your question is yes. Due to the inactivity, hardly ever will someone want to visit a chat room anymore. The only way this website is gonna gain that audience is to have more advertisements roaming around other websites like Twitter for an example. But yes, but it's not guarantee that it's for ever. There could be a bounce back, but only time will tell.
