synesthesia is this unique, harmless disease, where your senses kind of mix together.... it could be as common as seeing colors whenever you hear a sound. or as rare as tasting food when you think of someone's name...

I actually have that as well. I can actually hear colors better than I can see them. My rods in my eyes are actually becoming weak due to a recent injury, so colors are getting hard to see. I will be color blind eventually.
synesthesia is very confusing. I'm not physically hearing colors, just certain sounds bring colorful flashes in my head. That's why I love music so much. That's probably also why I can play well too.
I know my apprehensions might never be allayed. And so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written...
Actually, My Great Uncle has it. He explained it as "seeing music". Seeing notes, not as notes, but feelings and color. It was very confusing, but I think it is the main reason he loves music. He's in a nursery home now. His muscles are giving out oh him and he has artheritis badly so he cannot play his violin anymore. I think he's a bit sad about it... I've no idea why he never pursued a career as a professional violinist... He has a brilliant mind and he's an excellent musician. He must've had a good reason.
