Typing a figure tag, followed by an image tag nested in an a tag (without whitespace in between) seems to break the BBCode system.

Alright @Rlad116 I used your suggestion and I broke something else: I did an image tag within an a tag next to one of the same, and without a double quotes character in between, it devolves to a random

in the middle.

This is kind of important since this is how I make pseudo-FIGURE tags.

I don't see how that's related, really. It's a bug in the system, and that's what I'm pointing out.

Sure, it makes no sense to actually do this, but who cares?

So just make the URL the image rather than using a figure. Kind of seems like a worthless implementation let alone something to point out
