This one's fun to explain.

At the moment, I have a custom-made pfp set as my current pfp. However, it shows the default white sillouette on black in the top bar.

This is likely because of opening a new session via Chrome DevTools (specifically opening a DSiPaint link from the console tab while having Remember Me enabled) since I have seen this behavior before, but it never stuck around until now.

Not only am I asking for help, I also want to know how to fix this issue. No, logging out and back in on the troubled device accomplishes nothing.

It seems a temporary fix would be to click on the 3DSPaint link on the homepage and then click on the DSiPaint link on the homepage. Seems to work for no good reason.

Do NOT close this issue until this is fixed completely.
