According to my calculations, that would put you at 228 WPM. Truly blazing speeds, you.
Speaking of changing perspectives, I would have to say that this site is definitely one experience that leaves an interesting perspective in your mind. Keep in mind the people who exist here usually aren't the usual bunch you'll see since we're usually limited by such dated technology even in this modern era. Prime example is my friend Drac.

I appreciate it. I guess it really is around 1.5 words per second, but to me, it seems rather slow.
A matter of perspective can really change just about anything, doesn't it.

If I remember correctly, it's from a mixed bag of English words. The average length of a word, I hear, is about five characters, so that could be one metric that they use to calculate WPM.

I was hinting more that people are more likely to have instant gratification.
I wouldn't consider my typing speed to be stellar, but some people assign "108 wpm" some kind of weight or significance.

I honestly can't suggest an antidote for something like this since I don't have the same experiences firsthand. One thing that I can say, though, is that it's very easy for me to use passable English due to my typing speed. When taking into account how slowly people text, it's logical that words would be shortened.
Also consider that delayed gratification by means of long-winded conversations is not very common to come across on the Internet.

There definitely is a learning curve when it comes to speaking and conveying yourself online. Believe you me, any one of these kids wouldn't stand a chance on some other social networking sites, purely because they don't have be it maturity or experience. It's not that they don't learn, it's that they haven't yet.

I really appreciate it.

Keep in mind many members are about 12 years old, and they don't know how to converse online like in real face-to-face interactions. Quipping "lol" is virtually a conversation-stopper, and there's not much you can do about it.
Frankly, I just don't think they know any better.

I swear, that is one of the largest qualms I have with this site. There seems to be no meaningful conversation. Not only that, but it doesn't seem to be facilitated with good infrastructure, either. Just look at this site: simple messages take eternities to send, and it's far from easy to follow up on conversation when it's the most crucial moments.
The fact that it seems that everybody here isn't capable of actually conversing doesn't help, either.
