No, Watashi is used by both male and female, but it is more formal, boku is also formal but mostly used by boys.
If a girl says "Boku wa" while referring to herself she is considered a tomboy.

I am a student of the Japanese language, not online, I have a living breathing Japanese teacher that I see every weekday. He grew up in Japan and speaks fluent Japanese, so I'm learning well, luckily.
It's still a difficult language to completely get down though.
