My method is to paint over the image with a translucent white brush until I'm happy... but only works if you have a drawing device that supports transparency.

I personally prefer tinting the background image so contrast can be increased

Also, menu_sections should have a background imo; the font doesn't really show well on this background. I think that should be the case no mater the background, but meh.
