I went back inside of my house and sat on my couch. I was shaking and felt like I would vomit. I kept looking behind me, scared of every little noise. It was a few hours before I noticed the power was out. I waited. Waited for my parents, for anyone. I waited a day, two days, three days. Some of my neighbors were leaving, I didnt know where they were going. I dont think they knew either. Every sleepless night i remembered the sounds of the nukes, the bright light. Imagining the screams of thousands of innocent people. I waited a week, and then I left. Left to face this new world, the only world. I looked upon my neighbors, they were as scared as I was. I dont know if they ever made it. but now I know that those who waited for help, died. Those who grieved for their loved ones, died. Those who couldn't kill...Died. That was 15 years ago, I could tell you more but its a long, dreadful story. I would later find out that every single major city, across the globe, was destroyed. All of the countries that had nukes, lanched them. Not caring if they died, only if their enemies did. After the initial nuking, five years of nuclear winter followed. That horrible, freezing winter. The winter that killed most of the worlds life. After the clouds parted and the snow melted I would find an endless wasteland...what was left of the the world. Raiders emerged, raiding, stealing, killing. No where was safe. Soon walled citys called havens would be built to keep the raiders out. If you didnt live in a haven, you were as good as dead. Only raiders lived outside of them. And the only way to travel from one haven to another, was to hire a Traveler...like me. The first rule for Travelers is to never travel alone, I dont follow that rule. Money has no value, even gold is worthless, the currency of the world is cigarettes, the only common luxery left. This world is hell, maybe worse, but this world, is my world.
