As said on cnn.com, the earthquake in Chile may have indeed tipped the Earth's axis. Why does this matter? Beacause now days are 1.23 microseconds longer because it takes longer for the earth to rotate itself. Even if this is a small amount of time, it still is time you know. And since the earthquake in Chile may cause tsunamis, the days may get even shorter or longer. So if you ever feel like school ends a few seconds late, that's why.
Pfft... The Earthquake wasn't nearly strong enough to tilt the Earths axis more than a hundreth of a degree, possibly less, yet the media makes it a big deal....
I read that days are supposed to be shorter by that amount of time. It's because some of the higher land was brought lower after the earthquake, causing the same affect as if you are spinning in a chair with your arms and legs out then quickly pull them inward.
