If you remember my last one, it was about Graphics, and needing to be well-balanced with Gameplay. Well, this one's about the sound. And I'll be using the Pokemanz series as an example... Even though I'm using a Link Savii. o3o
Anyway, let's begin.
You've played Pokemon, I'm sure. Now, I'm sure all of you have at least one favorite theme, whether from a Battle, or Cutscene, or just a Town or Route. Good. That means you get my point. Now, try to imagine a world, where video games, had no music. Indeed, it sound like the early '70s. So, you would probably be a little bored by the game, no? I always keep the volume up when I play Pokemon, or use headphones now. The music certainly sets the tone for any battle or meeting with a new character. That's why I hate playing new parts on the bus or train, I might miss out on an awesome theme. So, let's get down to the example-portion.
Champion Themes Through The Ages
This guy to the left was a real cocky trainer, mind you. But, he had one of the best themes, as well. Never forget.[1996, J. 1998, ROW.]Link
A bit more mature, Lance was. I can't believe I had trouble getting past him and the Elite 4, now that I look back, since his strongest Pokemon was only Lv. 50. Always remember.[1999, J. 2000, ROW.]Link
He was a trip. Note that now, we switch from complete beeps and bloops, to a more organized MIDI-Track. You can hear, there are some slowdowns, instead of being one static tempo all the way through.[2003, E.]Link
Glad to see Nintendo stopped being sexist. oFTo Just kidding. She poses a real problem, if you screw up.[2007, E.]Link
Remind me of a certain Cipher Admin, from a Gamecube game... Hmm... Points if you guess. He's certainly bigger than the other Champions. o3o[2010, J. 2011, ROW.]Link[damn hard to find this one] So, I might've lost my point.
But, my point is, look at the progression of these themes, from beeps and bloops to the moreso orchestrated tones. Higher sound quality came, of course, with system upgrades. Now, again, think how boring Pokemon might be if you had no music during the Battles!
Oh, and you're welcome for the free Character Bios, courtesy of my opinion. o3o
i agree, but sometimes you wouldnt be able to here the music. imagine playing call of duty with music playing, you wouldnt be able to hear it, or youll get destracted
Kinda like how movies have music.. you might not always be completely aware of the music, but it sets the mood and without it, the game/movie wouldn't be the same..
I agree with you, with the exception of a few fantastic games (World of Goo being most notable) and rhythm games (obviously) a game's soundtrack gets virtually no credit.
