Alright, time to meet the 1% of me that is Republican, Conservative, Right-Wing, whatever the hell it is you call them. Meet Charles. -.-
We'll be discussing why McDonald's is not to blame for everything.
I'm sure we've all seen a seemingly sensible argument about how McDonald's is awful for you, and how it's an evil corporation, thus being the #1 Cause of obesity in American children.
Only two things are true; It's pretty goddamn bad for you [at 900+calories in one simple combo, half of the recommended DV of calories{2000},] and it's a giant mega-corporation.
BUT.
Parent's, and people who don't like eating it, forget one thing: It's their own fault if they give it to the child.
I've seen countless examples of people who complain and rant about it, but then later, you see them eating a large French fry later, and giving it to their kids. "Oh, but they advertise directly at children, about how fun it is to get a piece of plastic with their grease!" Well, take a freaking stand, and say "No." It's NOT that hard. I understand if you have budget issues, then there aren't too many [note, too many, you can still find some] alternatives price-wise. But, for those of you who make a decent income, shame on you and your hypocrisy. You're not setting a good example of parenting for your children, AND, you're placing the blame on someone else.
Furthermore, why we have McDonald's, Burger King, etc. Supply and Demand. The ideas were novel back then, and now, look: Huge name, one of the most well-known brands around! Why? Because, we DEMAND it. And even then, we'll gobble it up, knowing what's in it! Hell, I'm guilty of practically eating something there every Monday, before Guitar![the wait's unbearable]So, so long as we have a "need", although "urge" fits better, to eat and pay for it, McDiabetes, Burger King, they'll never go away.
*punches Charles*... Why'd I just defend McDonald's?!?!
I made a vow not to eat fast food. my mom brought home McD's and asks me "You want a fry!?" I just said "Hell no!" So yeah.. I don't eat it or any Fast Food o.e'
Haha true, they have those commercials that talk about how their chicken is "pure white meat!, so it's healthy!" and showing off that "Ooh we have apple slices now!", But anybody with a brain should know it isn't healthy anyway, it's funny to see them struggle to pretend t is though..
But, it has become a bit of a part of the economy... Then again, I haven't studied the economy in 3 years, I forgot how much of their revenue is turned in as taxes at the end of the fiscal year...
Poutine... And us U.S. Peoples are called disgusting... XD
I can kind of understand Admiral, I used to actually like burger king and wendy's chicken nuggets, but the last 3 or 4 times I tried to eat them I felt sick half-way through my meal.. not fun.
I don't have much of a problem considering I hate burgers.. ketchup.. chicken nuggets.. most fries (except Wendy's & curly fries Dx) And almost all of whatever else they sell.. I might get a salad or poutine from a fast food place every few months or something.
I agree though, everybody SHOULD be fully aware of how bad the food is for you, if you choose to eat it anyway you shouldn't complain later.. and if you don't know it's bad then.. well.. *cough* Anyway, if everybody, or most people stopped eating there, they'd go out of business, but people do eat there so they're everywhere. You don't have to eat there. Even if you don't have much money it's still a poor choice of food because it lacks nutrients and is filled with empty calories which won't fill you up, opposed to healthier food, even in smaller amounts, if that's all you can afford.
@Waffle: It was, one of my favorite documentaries... Although Sicko still goes nicely...
And Bowling for Columbine.
That's true. Really, as long as a human feels the warm soft food near the mouth, it soothes them psychologically. Think of breast-feeding.[ONLY toddler breast-feeding].
It's a muscle-memory thing, really. Eating is related to peace and security, which is related[generally] to being fed by yoyur mother at a young age.
I eat there weekly, no major work-out. Just long walks. o3o
Same. DX
That's what the McDonald's corporation used as their defense in "Super-size Me." Great movie, by the way. And I agree, it's the parents' fault. But I still despise that place. Even though I eat there. You don't have to like it to eat it. Food is food. I don't think it effects me too badly, as I workout frequently. But I still hear my heart cry out in pain with each bite.
Honestly, they aren't forcing people to eat their food. If their business is making fattening food, that's what they do for money. They shouldn't be shut down because we are dumb enough to eat their food.
