Alright, this is a bit more of a rant, but since it's a rant about GAMES, under gaming it shall go.
I was reading an old article of an interview with Junichi Masuda, and I'll quote what he said here.
"I don't think so. I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well. I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokemon, always. I think handheld really matches the idea of Pokemon that we have. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That's also a match with the Pokemon concept."
This was the interviewer asking about the chances of a Traditional Pokemon RPG ever appearing on Wii. The answer was no, and I don't blame him. Why? Because, that's not the route the games want to go. think about it. Would you ever want to play some CoD in 2-D on a handheld? That's basically the polar-opposite of making a full-fledged RPG for the Wii. It also removes portability, because if I had a Wii, I would not want to lug it over to my friend's house just to trade a Bidoof.
Now, what bugged me are the comments, accusing Nintendo of being cheap and lazy. I honestly disagree, with the same simile posted above. It destroys the original concept, and removes part of the fun of the games. To be able to play on the bus, train, car, anywhere, really. I wouldn't enjoy Pokemon as much it it were a stationary game on my GameCube[although I do enjoy Colosseum]. The point of Pokemon is, as Masuda said, to be able to play anywhere. And even if it IS about cost of production, I still side with them. Spin-Offs do much better on home consoles, especially the battling-arena ones, and the Main RPGs do much better on handhelds.
Plenty of other arguments that I'll shoot down in one-line counter-arguments.
Voice Acting-The cries are enough, and the characters are better being read.
Customizable Character-Do you know how long it'd take to create overworld sprites for each clothing combination?!?!
Different Battle System-Why would you want to change it?
That is all.
@Final: Well, teh beat me to it. What people above are complaining about is that they want a Pokemon game on the Wii or Wii U, but like the Handheld Versions, the REAL games.
I'm aware of Battle Revolution, it's much better and faster than Colosseum, but lacks a half-assed RPG, even. At least Colosseum got something special. oFTo
