Today September 5th 2011 marks what would have been Freddie Mercury's 65th birthday.
For those that are not up on the classics, Freddie Mercury was the founding member of a very influential rock band that hailed from London, England.
Founded in 1971, members Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, Queen went down in history as a groundbreaking and record setting band, that would make history in many ways over the span of almost two decades.
Mercury was one of the first openly gay musicians, and the first major rock star to die of AIDS in a time where it was still somewhat taboo, he later succumbed to AIDS and died on November 24, 1991.
His legacy still lives on today, Queen songs can be heard almost anywhere, in popular movies, at sporting events, and many television shows. A statue of Mercury was erected Switzerland as a tribute to him, and was unveiled by his father, people flock there in droves to pay respect, and tribute to a man whose voice was like no other, whose spirit in music can not surpass any of todays modern artists.
He is missed by many, and his music will always be classic, he touched the hearts of millions of people with his voice and song. And for that, I say Happy Birthday Freddie Mercury.
Hell yeah Happy Birthday to Freddy Mercury...Even though I wasn't alive back then. I still hear Queen, even though I only know what I read on Wikipedia. They made the coolest music.
R.I.P, Mercury. :3
