I always think back to the time of Washington's Farewell Address; in which he gives the young nation the advice to NOT get involved in European affairs. Look at us now.
The bomb on Hiroshima did have warning and was set to hit the military base, but the pilot was off-course, and the wind was heavy that day. The bomb ended up falling angled toward the city, so it took out much of the base and part of the city. Hiroshima is along a hillside, so much of the city was shielded from the blast, but there was still a terrible number of civilian casualties.
Quoth XxretraccoolXx:Well the japanese attacked pearl harbour because the usa cut off their oil supply. What would happen if the united states got their oil supply shut offw may claim to get our own oil but its kinda a joke. After the us quit drilling for oil in the gulf, only american had to stop, mexicans probally went and drille, then sold it to us so they couldmake money off of oil america already found for them
We produce our own oil, we just get oil from others as well. But the prices of oil for the USA would get jacked up extremely high. The reason Japan did what they did was pathetic and they deserved to be nuked in a way. I just wish they would of targeted some government places instead of killing thousands of innocent people that could possibly disagree with what their government was doing.
Some historians argue that America could of stopped the events which led to WW2 as they would of took charge of the League of Nations.
Quoth HullBreach:
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were actually major military bases. The power of the bombs was a big unknown. For that reason, the USA dropped leaflets from planes a day in advance that warned the civilians to evacuate the areas. The Little Boy bomb for Hiroshima was an untested U-235 gun-type. (An explosive blasts a chunk of U-235 into another chunk to make a chain reaction.) The Fat Man for Nagasaki was a Pu implosion-type (An explosive blased a sphere of Pu into a tight area.) that was tested once in Alamagordo, MN, with a different yield. Both bombs ended up being much more powerful than predicted and took out parts of the neighboring cities, along with the naval yards. It was tragic, for sure, but how many lives were actually spared by ending the War in the Pacific earlier than if the A-bombs had not existed? I've read estimates that say the war could have continued 10 more years.
actually, they werent military bases. Hiroshima did have a base, but it wasnt planned on being major unless Tokyo was more destriyed (by fire bombing)
The power of the a-bombs where a big unknown. Which is why they dropped it in the center of Hiroshima. They wanted to see how powerful they where. It just so happens that there was a hospital near ground zero, not a military base.
also, the pamphlets is a huge lie that you must have heard/ seen in the movie made soon after Hiroshima. There was no warning.
sorry to point those out, I just wanted you to know what happened (also, read the book Hiroshima. It's pretty good, and tells the stories of like 6 of the survivors of Little Boy)

well does anyone know that we were very close to losing that war

Unfun fact: Holocaust means "Destructive Fire"

I love how Japan killed roughly 2,000 people in the bombing (68 were civilians), so the USA nuked them killing 200,000 people that were mostly civilians. But the USA brought baseball to them so it's all good.
Since this blog is categorized as "Polemic Rant", I will accept it. Parts of the history are inaccurate.
FDR did not pull the US out of the Great Depression. If anything, he prolonged it with corruption of monetary policy and cronyism of officials. He was as close to a dictator as the nation ever had to that point. Under FDR, the USA defaulted on its debts by readjusting the dollar-to-gold ratio. By today's standard, it was around 700,000,000 of debt defaulted. This rippled to Europe, causing creditors to lose out on the funds and prolonged their depression, leading to promises from totalitarian leaders like Hitler and Mussolini that opressed great numbers of people.
When the War came about, there was a great deal of debate over whether or not the USA should enter the War.
The nation was not in the position to enter a war that was mainly between just European nations at the time. As the situation got much worse in Europe, Hitler made his appeal to his "Yellow Aryan Brothers" in Japan, which led to their attack on the USA at Pearl Harbor.
Once the USA entered the War, so much effort was put toward manufacturing and scientific research that the economy started growing, putting an end to the Great Depression.
It wasn't until after the War that the world really
found the full extent of the evil the Nazis committed against the Jews of Europe.
Why not have some pride in your country?
