Over the years of being on this site, I have seen many times where members say things that just make me cringe. No, I'm not talking about the bannable things nooblets always like to do, but things that aren't actually bannable offenses.
Too many people are giving out too much personal information and this can be dangerous. This "personal information" can be anything from last name, school, city, phone number, e-mail address, even some of the profile pictures.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea to have conversations with friends, but try not to make this information so public. Admins can only do so much to protect you all from threats, but you all need to do your part, too! Our reach can only extend to the DSiPaint community.
I have been looking at profiles these past few nights of people that are online. I will begin sending out messages through DSiPaint on different things that will hopefully be taken in to consideration for your protection. I cannot catch everything, so make sure you all do your part in your own safety and the safety of your friends.
The fact that this resonates so much even today is concerning. Not too big of a problem anymore, I presume, but it's never bad to bump this as a reminder.
Huh. Yeah, this is true.
I'm safe, though. I don't even remember my Phone number, Email, or Address. Not that I have a bad memory, I just don't care. I'm too lazy to see what they are.
That's debatable. All I know is where I live relative to certain landmarks and arbitrary maps laid out by other people. In terms of the universe as a whole, I have no idea where I am.
It really worries me with the younger kids who do not know better and their parents do not know about their online activity.
Too often I see kids under 13 posting pictures of themselves, duckfacing, throwing deuces, etc, and while they think it is perfectly fine and dandy to show off their "swag" they really do not understand how easy it is for someone to reverse search/gps tag most of those pictures and start creeping.
We do not say this stuff to you guys to be mean and oppress you from your future swag attacks, we do this to protect you.
I agree. Hence why I restrict so much of my personal info. All this site needs to know is my name (Waffle King) and the general area where I live. (Waffle Kingdom)
