Before anyone points this out, yes, I know all of the things I mention here are pretty old already. Being totally up to date isn't the point of this, so just try to let that slide. I hope you enjoy the read.
Television is Way Too Inappropriate
TV scares me. It really does. You see some things there that are so far out of what I know and am comfortable with. They bring up some awful and gross things. And they do it so light heartedly.
For example, I was watching one particular show the other day, not this day, the other one, and it involved a man with some clear mental issues being shouted at by children. They were forcing him to dress up a certain way but he simply lacked the mental faculty to understand what he was supposed to do. And they made no big deal of it as if it were perfectly fine and normal. I really felt sorry for Mr Noodle on Elmo's World.
There was a very odd movie on recently. It was set in some fictional place where everyone drank from a river that very obviously had had some strange agent introduced to it. It followed a series of uh... "colorful" characters trying to get back a big "diamond" from high up in the sky so that Spring would return and everyone could go on being made "happy" by the diamond. I don't know what they're putting in that water to make everyone feel happy and imaginative, but I think don't think Rainbow Brite only flies high on her horse, I'll tell you that much.
Seriously, TV these days is totally inappropriate for kids. One show even had this guy kicked out of his home by some stranger who then started living in the guy's house, wearing his clothes, and obviously taking some sort of mood altering drugs; the guy was unusually happy and energetic, and thought his dog and inanimate objects around the house were talking to him! I never liked Joe on Blue's Clues.
I really hope things turn around for television soon and we get some wholesome programming for the family to enjoy together. Like that show called Breaking Bad. I've never seen it myself, but with a name like that, what else could it be other than a show where they combat the forces of evil? Thanks for reading.
Wow! Great blog. I agree. Sesame street will be so different. I can't believe it. I love Elmo's World. It's so interesting in cute funny ways. I hope things change.
Yeah, Steve did. Joe was his brother on the show. I just didn't know that when it happened, so I was pretty weirded out by the whole situation as a kid since it looked like some strange guy had just come in off the street and taken Steve's place.
I majorly agree on the Mr. Noodle bit. I was on youtube watching kids shows I used to watch [like Maisy, Spot and Pablo the little red fox] and Mr. Noodle was mentally incapable of using a banana properly. That was Dorothy's question: "How do you use a banana"
The guy did the logical thing of dialling his brother; Mr. Noodle, on the banana to ask for help, but no, "Silly Mr. Noodle, it's not a phone!" Those kids were probably all using their banana phones texting. Then Mr. Noodle tried using the banana as a pen, but no "Silly Mr. Noodle, it's not a pen, you gotta peel it and eat it!" I mean I use my banana pen all the time, it's great.
Disney shows is the reason for kids (mostly girls) acting like a princess (AKA: a brat.) My sister has a bad case of this. I hope some common sense gets spanked into her one day for speaking ugly to people who are nice to her.
