The lingo now in days is so odd. I don't know whether or not it's the rappers half-witted personalities leading us, or perhaps even the stupidity of people my age making us this way. All I know is that my generation needs to grow up fast. I'm not saying its everyone else and not me, but it is a lot of us. So I am here to guide you. Show you that there are other phrases and terms that carry the same meaning but don't look so puerile on paper. Shall we begin?
#1- YOLO
This word is simply just a mistake waiting to happen. I personally don't understand it. I'm sure the majority of comment I get on this will be, "cuz Yolo" and what not, but anyway, let me tell you how stupid this sounds to your peers. Saying Yolo before you do something incredibly stupid takes away the meaning. The meaning of this nonsense is "you only live once." Now, they say you should make the most of life because you only live once. They got rid of making the most of life in my opinion. Call me crazy, but having sex when you're 13 and ruining your life 'cuz Yolo isn't living life to the fullest. Or killing someone and ridding them from living at all anymore 'cuz Yolo hardly seems cool. You see, I view Yolo as a reason for someone to do something stupid and get away with it. I don't see why they are able to get away with being a complete idiot just because they use the word Yolo before, during, or after doing the action. If Yolo is your motto, you should change it to something more along the lines of "try your best and act responsibly." You will have many more REAL friends and you will gain true respect.
#2- Swag
Not quite sure what this really means. It has been used for many different things. According to yahoo answers it originally meant "secretly we are gay." Although, I'm not sure I'm buying it. Why would all these people be saying it then. No way they are all gay. So now they came up with the alternative meaning "something we Americans got." To be honest, this makes me sense. Not sure many other countries are dumb enough to use this word in a serious tense. Most the time you'll see our English friends making fun of us for using such ridiculous lingo. I personally have see it used to describe more of a strut or look to you. An apparent "swagger" of you will. It your pants are sagging and you're holding your crotch to keep them up, you have swag. Congratulations. You should apply for McDonald's. Who knows, maybe you can even get a better job, such as a Wal-Mart greeter.
#3- Lol
I would say the majority of us have fallen into this. I too, am one of its victims. I say it a fair amount even. Although, I'm not actually talking about in text messages right now, I mean in real life. That's right, some people will literally say "lol" instead of doing the actual action. Makes you look really dumb in my opinion. You need to work on the way you talk if you do this.
#4- 3Hunna
Are you keeping it 3Hunna? I can assure you Chief Keef is. He's pulling up in that Audi rather than that Honda. I swear, if you are lucky enough to be as dumb as Chief Keef but still manage to have as much money as him, you're living a pretty nice life. I'm not sure how this got started. All I know is that it's a song by Chief Keef and Rick Ross. It has a symbol to go along with it and everything. If I see you doing the symbol, I will literally shun you. You look so stupid when you do this. Please stop.
#5- Gay (Incorrect Usage)
I too have done this. Said something looked gay or it was just gay in general. I have come to hate this though. When you use it in place of the word stupid, it makes me assume you're calling all gay people stupid. I'm not pro-gay nor am I anti-gay simply because it doesn't affect me or anyone I am close too, but it is kind of a low move to use the word in that manner. It's look pretty funny if you switch out the word gay with homosexual and you get a bad grade back and say "well that's homosexual."
#6- Bang Bang
This is another stupid one. The only time I find this appropriate is if you just shot something. People find all different times to use this. It's sort of funny actually. "Just took my dog for a walk, bang bang." Did you shoot someone while on this walk? You're very misleading. Stop.
#7- Swerve
This is sort of like swag. Basically the same meaning just a different word. You sound drunk when you say this to be honest. But just look back at the problems with swag for this one.
