(I don't know why but my earlier version of this, didn't show up. If a blogmin sees it, Just Ignore this one.)
Frankly, what really gets me mad these days is this generation, not everyone, but the vast majority.
Firstly, the people who decide that “swag” and “Yolo” are the greatest mottos ever and by using them, they’re instantly going to be successful. “Who needs school when you have swag?” Seriously, I’m not even joking. That’s an actual Tumblr quote. The thing about “swag” is, it’s useless. NO decent employer will hire you just because of your so-called “swag”. “Yolo” means “You Only Live Once”, and people use this as justification for things it’s rather obvious you should never do. A girl drunk herself past surgical intoxication and runs on a football field mid-game, and used YOLO as her reason. This is ridiculous that kids my age are stupid enough to do stuff like this and then just say “Yolo swag, LOL! Im soo kewl.” Even Microsoft hates that sentence.
Next, the music. You know that popular song “Blurred Lines” that just came out? Catchy song, no? Look up the lyrics. Even the censored version is so explicit, I’m afraid to post the lyrics here for sake of being banned from computers. What’s even worse is that after the song releases, Mr. Thicke says that it was fun to DEGRADE A WOMAN because he’d never done it before and the song is a FEMINIST MOVEMENT. THE SONG ENTIRELY ABOUT DEGRADING A WOMAN IS NOT A SUCCESSFUL FEMINIST MOVEMENT! Recently, artists have decided to title songs with “Hashtags” or pound symbols. Last I checked, a song and a twitter trend were two different things. Why does every pop song have to have a double meaning about love, anyways?
Next is government and NO, I don’t personally have a problem with Obama. The country wasn’t perfect with Bush in charge either. I have a problem with Obama deciding that since Hollywood signs his paychecks, they should get control over the internet. The internet isn’t yours, Hollywood and we don’t stand for you jailing us just for creating fan art or creating custom based off your media. As long as there are fans, acts like SOPA and PIPA will NEVER pass.
My final point is television. I’m looking at you “reality” TV. I’ll be in the kitchen with my brother watching TV and every second word or so will be a bleep. I don’t know about anyone else, but no one I know curses every second word. Game shows used to be ok too, but now we have shows where the biggest joke is the contestants and it’s perfectly ok to laugh at them. The hosts can’t even make decent jokes anymore.
Frankly, this generation worries me. I’m worried that these people will grow up, and rather than improving our current problems, just create more. To quote a favorite movie of mine, "God Bless America" (of which I own no content of): “America has become a cruel and vicious place. We reward the shallowest, the dumbest, the meanest and the loudest. We no longer have any common sense of decency. No sense of shame. There is no right and wrong. The worst qualities in people are looked up to and celebrated. Lying and spreading fear is fine as long as you make money doing it. We've become a nation of slogan-saying, bile-spewing hatemongers. We've lost our kindness. We've lost our soul. What have we become? We take the weakest in our society, we hold them up to be ridiculed, laughed at for our sport and entertainment. Laughed at to the point, where they would literally rather kill themselves than live with us anymore.” Honestly, when was the last time you took at look at our current behavior as a society? Why is the most respectful place I’ve found the internet? And finally, if I, a measly tenth grader, can see this, why can’t anyone else?
