Hello, everyone. As some of you may have noticed, I haven't written anything in a long time. It's not because I was busy or anything. I just didn't care to type out any of the ideas I came up with. I rarely do. It really is a wonder how I managed to write as much as I have on this site, especially given the fact that I now and have always strongly disliked writing. Anyway, here's a sort of follow up to a previous blog I wrote. Enjoy.

For some time now I've seen that quite a few users tend to behave differently when in pseudo presence of admins. The difference in behavior varies quite a bit from user to user, but overall I'd say it's something that shouldn't be done. From what I've seen, the admins don't particularly like it, and it doesn't usually benefit the users. You really should just be yourself when talking to an admin. Beyond just being polite, which is something you should do with everyone, it's not at all necessary to change how you act with others simply because they're an admin.

One example that you shouldn't follow, and which I think is especially annoying for the admins, is when a user is clearly just sucking up so that they might improve their chances of gaining adminship. You shouldn't do this. It's not going to help you, and it just gets on people's nerves. To help give you an idea as to how you should behave with an admin, I'll provide a short conversation between myself and a certain unnamed admin. This isn't word for word how it went, but I think it'll get the point across.



Beloved: "Arty, you're British, right? Or English or whatever it is they're called?"

Mystery Admin: "I think so."

You see? That was perfect. Clearly not sucking up. He'd just entered the chat, and just like how I'd treat any normal user, I was very polite; I ignored his greeting, just as I would with anyone else, and I went about my normal behavior completely unchanged. Wouldn't you be offended if someone was clearly putting on an act just to get on your good side? Back to the conversation.



Beloved: "What's it like in the Winter? Does it suddenly turn all poor and gross and become the 1800s or something?"

Mystery Admin: "You mean like in Charles Dickens?"

Again, absolutely solid. Very politely, I asked about the weather. I even joked aound, as I would with any other normal user. That's something you need to remember. An admin is just a normal user. There's no need to kiss up to them. And just as I'd do with anyone, I didn't explain that it was a joke. Not then or ever. Wouldn't it be rude to explain something is a joke when it clearly is, as if I thought he had no sense of humor just because he's an admin?

In this next part an Overlord comes in.



Beloved: "Yeah, yeah. That's it exactly. And you get all sick with mange or something."

Overlord: "What are you talking about?"

Beloved: "I was just asking Thomas the Tank if in Winter it gets all poor and old-timey in England. Like in Charles Dickens."

Overlord: "Haha, Hull would love that!"



There. I was completely honest and polite. Once again, you see it's perfectly fine to treat admins like you would anyone else. They're people, nothing else. So don't go licking their boots or kissing ass just to try to further yourself. It's underhanded and won't get you anywhere.

When you talk to admins, just be polite and normal. Like when another Overlord was dealing with a user who was repeatedly making new accounts just to spout inappropriate things in the chats, I nicely promised the Overlord that if I ever decided to make a couple hundred fake accounts and go into the chats to talk about my body parts and their various uses, I'd try to make it easy on him. That's just the nice thing to do. It isn't special treatment.

So before you go sucking boots or licking ass (Is that how those phrases go?), remember that it won't get you anywhere. It's just annoying. You should treat the admins like anyone else, just as I do.
