Note that the following are only concrete plans that directly relate the the community, so I have not listed on-going projects like TMJ and indirectly-related projects, like HB:U.
SDK Community iOS App
Through the last quarter of 2013, the app laid dormant, as I waited for some new development tools to become available at the end of the year. Since the tools are now here, app development will resume. This will allow updates to include rich text, pull to refresh, and more iOS 7 features. Releases of the app will come in phases. The first will be an interface clean-up for speed and a few new features. My plan is to bring all the sharing features of the websites into the app this year, meaning that Nintendo platform specific features (i.e. 3D images, painting, TMJ, games, mesh gallery) will not come to the app.
As always, I will publish the API so that anyone can build an app for another mobile platform or link to an affiliate website. Each iOS app released will have an accompanying API release.
Blog Enhancements
Blogs remain one of the driving forces to this community. Thus, I have plans for updates to the blog area. This includes clean-up of some clunky interface aspects for writing and editing blogs. The comments section will be expanded to have more than just a +/- rating system; it will gain specific ratings, like "+1 funny" and "-1 trolling". There will also be an ability to flag a comment as inappropriate.
Bulletin Boards
The Bulletin Boards have not been updated in a while, so the interface has fallen behind some of the newer community aspects. One glaring example is the reply/quote system. I plan on updating it to be more like the blogs, so that rich text and smilies don't show as stray BB code. There will also be improved searching and post previews.
GamePadPaint.com
Now that the Wii generation is fading and being supplanted by the Wii U, I will resume work on GamePadPaint.com and its planned features. Nintendo published an extensive browser API that includes usage of all the buttons and the thumbsticks, so games will be interesting for the website!
3DSPaint
This still needs to be finished to include voting, Top 10 lists, and others features that DSiPaint has had for years.
Library
The Library is finally available, but that does not mean it's done. The plan is to make it a full eReader, so expect many updates this year.
Although it would be nice, and it's unpleasant to put it this way, I think the fact of the matter is that it's unreasonable to expect a small bunch of 8-18 year olds to have the experience, dedication and interest in developing an entire MMO.
