I know a lot of people really enjoy reading interviews, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I recently had a chance to sit down and talk with one of our members. And by that I mean I sat down and tapped out a few messages to someone. I can't say who because they didn't agree to the interview and wouldn't answer any questions. So I moved on and tried to find someone else, but after several tries it became apparent that I wasn't getting anywhere, so for this interview I did something a little bit out of the ordinary. I just hope you can all enjoy it anyway. Let's start.
What is your name and what do you do?
"My name is Beloved, and I guess the best word to sum up what I do is nothing. I do nothing. I do absolutely nothing at all whatsoever."
That's very interesting. If you don't mind, could you walk me through a typical day for you?
"Uh, yes, yes that'd be fine. On most days I'll stay in. I won't leave the building or even the room. In most cases I won't so much as stand up. Unless I'm being moved or the nurse is washing me I'll just lay in bed the whole day and simply breathe with my eyes closed."
I see. You have a nurse? And they wash you?
"Ah, yeah. Yeah I do. Without her I tend to get a bit stale. She'll come in and rub me down with a sponge, usually. Sometimes she uses a rag."
Why do you have a nurse?
"Oh. Uh, well you see, I uh. I'm in a bit of a coma at the moment. I don't know what happened or where I am exactly. I just know there are lights on sometimes and I hear people talk."
That's amazing. I had no idea. And what's that like?
"It's okay. There are good times and bad times. Like when the nurse washes me. I enjoy that. Sometimes I'll hear people talking to me or about me. They'll say things like "Sometimes Beloved reacts to physical contact. The nurse says she sees a slight smile sometimes after a cleaning." or "Please wake up, oh god, please just wake up". And there'll be some slight sobbing. Things like that. I don't know why, but people seem to really like gripping my hand as if they're trying to break it."
Wow. That's really something... So what do you like to do? What are some of your interests?
"I like to lay in bed with the window open. I really like the feeling of a soft breeze or the sun on my face. Drooling is something I've gotten pretty into lately. It gets people to touch my face, and that's pretty useful for when I have an itch. I sometimes make a game of it. I'll try to see just how much drool I can get out before the nurse notices. If I can get her to change the pillow then it's like beating the final boss."
That's great. I'd like to try that some time. We're just about done here, so is there anything else you'd like to say? Some hobby or do you maybe have a special someone in your life?
"Yeah. One other thing I like to do is stand up comedy. It's a real challenge, but I love it. I don't think I could ever give it up. As for a special someone, I've fallen in love with the nurse I mentioned. She's a very sweet girl. Really pleasant voice.
I say "girl", but really I don't know. That's just my guess going by the voice and soft hands. And I think she's interested. We don't talk much, but I think those sponge baths speak for themselves."
Well, isn't that special. I hope it goes well for you in your comatose state. Thanks for you time.
