I know this is a bit early, but I might forget to post this in time for the actual date. Only two days off, anyways. Eleven years ago, on February 27, 2003, Fred Rogers, or as most people know him as, Mr. Rogers, passed away.

He is well known to children on a TV show called Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. It started out in 1953 on WQED as The Children's Corner, that had Mr. Rogers as a puppeteer. In 1963, the actual show started, but as Misterogers, on CBC Television. In 1966, it was changed to Misterogers' Neighborhood on EEN, then another debut in February, 1968 on NET, and then on PBS (Mister Rogers' Neighborhood), which finished the show in August, 2001. The show was geared toward children that were preschool age, but was said by PBS that it was a "show for all ages". Reruns kept going on until 2007, but still could be seen every once in a while. In 2008, PBS permanently removed the program.

Not only was Mr. Rogers a television host on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, but he was also an educator, a songwriter, and an author. He was originally educated to be a Presbyterian Minister, but didn't like how children were addressed on TV and wanted to change that, which began his songwriting/performing career on Pittsburgh-area shows for children.

He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (a medal given by the President of the United States, is the highest civilian award of the US, it recognizes those who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States"), many honorary degrees, and a Peabody Award (program that "recognizes distinguished and meritorious public service by radio and television station stations, networks, producing organizations and individuals")
