The title pretty much describes what's going on here.
So you should totally be a nice customer wherever you go. It doesn't matter if it's Taco Bell or Super Yummy Mart.
What if the service they provide is unsatisfactory? Who cares? You complaining to a clerk won't help much. The clerk probably isn't a manager. Don't make a clerk's day worse by yelling at him. One complaint can make a clerk's view of a day at work bad that would otherwise be good.
Actually, if someone complaining is upset enough, it could make the clerk quit the job. Seriously, don't make it hard for people at work. People don't like dealing with complaining customers. It's your choice to go there, and if you didn't like the service or product, then you didn't have to go there. Nor do you have to continue going there.
Is it really useful to complain and tell someone you'll stop being a customer there? No, because if you're going to take your business elsewhere, who cares whether you tell someone you're not happy with their service? If you're actually going to go somewhere else and it's not just a threat, then it's better to just shut up and not complain. Do you just want to get something for free, or get a better deal?
Even if the employee isn't very friendly or very helpful, don't get mad. Be friendly to him. If he doesn't have an answer to your question, it's okay. You don't know what his job is like. Maybe he doesn't work in that department. Maybe he's new. Maybe he has to memorize a bunch of item locations or prices. Is it really as important to answer someone's question about an item being in stock?
The employees at the places you go to are people. And please try to look at their job from their perspective. They're there for probably about eight hours. You're there for what, less than an hour? So seriously, be nice to employees and make their day better and not worse. Make their day fun, not stressful. Have a beaming smile and be enthusiastic when you talk to them, and thank them for whatever they're doing for you. This can actually make them smile and be more friendly to you and other customers. So be a nice customer.
Hmmmm... When an employee is bad to a customer that makes the customer act badly to the employee. In a way it could possibly be the employee's fault that he is acting that way in the first place.
You're basically saying that it's okay for the employees to be douchebags. That is not okay. Customers have certain expectations from the staff, and so do the staff have expectations from the customers. It's proper etiquette. It doesn't matter if they've had a bad day or their job sucks. They choose to work there. If they don't feel well then they should probably stay home. Or if they don't like the job conditions then they should just quit. They should still treat the customer with respect regardless of the situation they're in. And we have the right to put them in their shoes as the customers. Sure, we too shouldn't add too much gasoline to the fire and treat them with respect as well, I agree with that. But it's part of how business works. And they should care too because what if the customer recieving bad service is a newspaper editor or a food inspector? What now then?
See, it's a whole lot harder to change your job than it is to change where you shop. But yeah, employees should be nice too. Everybody should be nice. Like BanMan. BanMan is nice.
Bun, is this your way of asking people to be nice to you at work? Are you the new guy who has to memorize all that stuff? Are you about to quit because customers are rude to you?
It's okay, Bun. It's okay. It's natural to get your feelings hurt sometimes. Don't cry. We're here for you.
At their job you'd probably feel like a dumpster of commands and whiny-ass adults who have obvious conduct issues yelling like a young child to someone 20 years younger than them.
