1: What inspired you to create SDK? Where did this awesome community come from? How did it all begin?
When I was making HullBreach Online in 2006-2007, several custom Java Script tools that arose from the game seemed useful enough for other Wii-friendly Web developers, so I released them as the open-source Wii Opera SDK. Over time, that set of tools got its own website at wiioperasdk.com. As the website began to grow with new features, I carried it over to the Nintendo DSi in early 2009 as dsoperasdk.com. It was really the buggy chatrooms that caused everything to begin, and the DSiPaint Web app really caused things to explode in mid 2009.
2: What was the first chatroom? And any chatroom trivia for our viewers?
The chatrooms actually began as an experiment on one of my really old websites breakdancecrew.com (which has been taken over by Russian link spammers). I later ported it over to hullbreachonline.com with slight modifications. No one ever used either one, so they laid dormant for a while. Just to see if it could be done, I tried formatting the chatroom code for the Nintendo DSi and tossed it onto dsoperasdk.com as Chatroom A and Chatroom B. There was no account login in the beginning, so usernames were actually IP addresses. When I linked the hullbreachonline.com (and tWiiter) accounts, anyone logged in would display the username, but anonymous logins were still allowed.
3: What about Groups? What was the first one, and who made it?
Groups began as a concept for guilds in The Mystical Journey, combined with the frequently-requested feature of account customizations (which also came later). The first Group focused on development of The Mystical Journey on the Nintendo DSi browser and included members of the development team.
4: What's the story behind Blogs?
Blogs were one of the earlier features in the community. They came along soon after chatrooms and tWiiter and around the same time as DSiPaint. In the early days of the community, there was no landing page with icons, and there were no featured blogs. Every blog post showed on the homepage, just under the DSiPaint featured artwork and the list of the 2 (later 4) chatrooms.
5: Ready for silly questions?
Purple baboon butts?
6: Why on earth would you give me the ability to message you? I'm an infamous power begger!
I'm a poor judge of character and a sucker for punishment, apparently.
7: 'BrullHeach'. Comments?
Um... wow, look at the time! Are we there yet?
8: Back to serious stuff. How's your family doing?
We are all doing well. Gabriella (5yr) is in kindergarten; she is learning to read, can name all the planets, and keeps begging to play Smash Bros Brawl. Mitchell (3yr) is partially potty-trained and shared this realization a few days ago about his favorite candy: "Eating gummies makes you potty, and using the potty gets you gummies." Samson (9mo) is able to sit and has started into the "everything is food, so I will grab it and eat it" phase. Samantha has been working on genealogy projects and watching cop dramas. I've been wishing that days would suddenly gain more hours so that all my projects will finally be completed.
9: Anything you want to tell us about you or the site?
This community has been a fun ride. Even though traffic will never again reach the peak of 7000 visits per day, I still enjoy taking part on a daily basis and will cherish many fond memories of the past few years until the day I go fully senile.
Oh, and 10, because I have to ask this: cn I hs admn?
Admin for everyone!
Woohoo! Anyways, this has been a great interview. Be sure to tune in next time!
It was a beautiful day... I had just gotten banned from Flipnote Hatena, and decided to check out a site I'd heard about.
I joined, hoping to spread the same kind of chaos I did on Hatena.
I wrote a blog. A review of a crappy DS game. It was Spectrobes.
Halliane accepted my blog, which was really cool. But then a day later, Jabinator denied it without reason. I asked him about it but he replied with "-_-", which seemed to mean he didn't like me. I posted a Helpdesk question asking "My blog was featured, but now it's not. Wth?"
Haru replied with "Maybe someone accepted your noob blog on accident."
I found Halliane in the chat and told her, and she reaccepted it because she thought I was funny.
WHO WRITES THE NOOB BLOGS NOW, HARU? WHO WRITES THE NOOB BLOGS NOW, HUH?
You missed an opportunity by not replying to my comment instead lol
Also you missed the opportunity to use a [figure] tag (figure tag in case it doesn't show up) lol
