Hey everyone,
Welcome to the first (official) lesson of Japanese.
In this blog, I will just be covering all of the vocabulary for Lesson 1.
It will include:
Time/Other words
Time
Ima: "Now" (e-ma)
Gozen: A.M. (ga-zen)
Gogo: P.M. (go-go)
Ji: Represents the hours when telling time (g)
Fun: Represents the minutes when telling time (not to be confused with "fun" in english xD)
Han: "Half" (like "It's half past 2." (hun)
I will explain how to tell time later in the lesson.
Other words
Desu: A present tense of "to be" in Japanese. It can be used regardless of perspective (1st, 2nd, 3rd person) and grammatical number (whether the noun it refers to is singular or plural). In other words, it can mean "am", "are", and "is". (des-sue)
Ano: Means "uhh...". You can also use the word eto. (a-no)
Sou desu: "That's right." (sue-des-sue)
Nan/Nani: "What" (Spelling depends on certain things, but I'll explain it later in the lesson)
Namae: "Name"
Sai: "~years old" This is used to describe age. I will cover how to use it later in the lesson.
Denwa: "Telephone" (den-wa)
Bangou: "Number" (ben-goo)
Nihon: "Japan" (na-hun)
go: Means "language". You add this to a nation name (usually, however, there are some exceptions).
Ex: Nihongo: "Japanese" (language); Eigo: "English" (language)
If you want to say "Japanese" as in nationality. You use jin instead.
Ex: Nihonjin: "Japanese" (person); Amerikajin: "American"
!!If you want, post your nationality, and I can try and look up how to say it in Japanese o: (unless you want to try so yourself which is okay too ^_^)!!
