On every woodwind there is a mouthpiece, and so is there on an ocarina. How to make one? Well, it's easy, just take some more clay and roll it into a coil that's wider and thicker than your popsicle stick, you can make it whatever length you want. Then make little cuts on the ocarina (not too deep!) where the flat side starts, then score the side of the mouthpiece that you AREN'T going to blow into. Note: Both sides of the mouthpiece must be flat. Then just like we did for the ocarina's body; apply water to both sides with cuts then put them together then apply moist clay to the "seam".
THE VOICING
Once that's done; make a circular hole right under the mouthpiece by twisting your popsicle stick in the clay. THIS NEXT STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT AND IF DONE WRONG CAN MAKE YOUR OCARINA NOT WORK! You need to now align your popsicle stick with your hole and slowly push the popsicle stick down the mouthpiece and make it so that you can see your popsicle stick. Also make sure you're hitting the "wall" of the body. Once you have completed that; leave your popsicle stick in the mouthpiece then take out your blade and cut at an angle so the popsicle stick hits a sharp edge making the air you blow through the mouthpiece go half into and half out of the ocarina. You have just finished your ocarina! Blow through the mouthpiece to test the sound. If you want, you can make holes in the ocarina so that you can get different notes.
