It's been awhile since I wrote a Rant Blog! This blog is 3% Religious another 3% regarding politics and 4% rant. Lets get started shall we?

I've heard numerous people say that Children can not pray in school or openly celebrate holidays. I've done a bit of research and spoken to a few sources and I've come to the conclusion that Children CAN pray in school. U.S Schools are endorsed by the Goverment and because of that they are restricted by constitutional laws. The goverment can not favor any specific religion or discriminate against a specific one. Someone made the argument that schools should be able to mention "god" without being specific. (IE, Alah, Buddha, etc) There are Atheists that DON'T believe in a "god", so even if your not specific you MAY offend someone.

Children are allowed to pray in school as long as it is not forced upon students by a staff member or taught. Students rights to pray are protected by the Freedom of Speech and Freed of Expression amendment. Some schools are allowed to favor any specific religion. These are called "Private Schools". The reason why they can do that is because they are not federally funded and can make up there own rules and regulations. If you were Christian and your school was mostly citizens that believed in a different religion and you were forced to pray to there god how would you feel? What if you were singled out because you were different? You wouldn't like that feeling so don't wish it onto others.

I open all to comment there opinions as long as they are not disrespectful or rude. Let the Friendly debates commence.

I hate religion. I'd rather go to school 6 days of the week.

Some Gov schools have kicked out students for openly praying.

Despite Constitutional rights, it may be allowed, but there are usually consequences. Why? The Gov does not want to be recognized as a Country with any affiliation with religeon. Therefore, schools may not make it illegal, but it is looked down upon. This may be controversial, but it is true and I have observed it.

Oddly enough, this problem is only for students of the Christian faith.

Considering the war in Iraq however, I am not surprised

I learned about buddhism and other religions in 6th grade as social studies, so religion is found in schools, but, as said before me, only in ways of learning.

Over here in wet ol' England, the majority of Secondary Schools are very secular, unless specifically stated otherwise. I reckon it's good that way, 'cause only those who want to go to biased schools do so.

The Primary school I went to was a CE school, meaning 'church of England,' so it was very pro-God and Christianity and stuff. While I don't believe in that stuff now, it was still a good school in its own right.

Because extremists on both ends [Atheist Nut to Religious Nut,] overreact to any mention of the other. They forget that neutrality exists somewhere.

Public schools are meant to be a level "playing-field" of sorts. Obviously, it'd be unjust for staff to discriminate against any belief system.

Also, I'm assuming that this is moreso relevant to Middle & High Schools, yes? Not many 1st Graders decide to drop knee during recess.

Our comments make up the other 90% of the discussion.

I'm torn on this blog. I agree with much of it, but there are plenty of instances were students are not allowed to express their own religious beliefs, such as in valedictions. There are also instances of teachers mocking the religions of students with no disciplinary action from the schoolboard.

School is a place to learn, so religion generally has no place in teaching (aside from related curricula), but that does not mean employee bigots from a specific religion (generally atheism, but all apply) can for their own beliefs on students.

And funny you mention religion, they don't need no bill they just need to tone down the religious teaching bit by bit. Take my school for example, one year they are teaching 5 or so religions, year after they are teaching 1 ... Which to be honest, had little reliable staff behind it who's to say they can't make it worse after that? (I know it isn't as "simple" as that, but it could be made a hella of a lot less contraversial that war)

To quick to judge about "some kid" I know plenty of people that would pray in school, given the chance that is.

People were preying at my school at dinner. didnt affect me. who cares =D am i gonna be cursed cos im not preying with them or something? xD

I think people should have more freedom.

My sister has at least 3 guns, a kotana, 4 swords (2 real ones and 2 spars), 2 bows (a compound and long bow) and to complete the circut, she keeps the ammo on her dresser and desk. And she is 13![/quote]

Well, I guess I misinterpreted those billboards that said if you buy a gun for someone who can't, your buying yourself into 10 years of jail. I thought they meant kids as someone who can't. Oh, and you only focused on the last 8-9 words of my comment, nothing about the bannishment of all religion in public schools.

Well said. It seems you did your research well. Here in Canada we talk about God in our national anthem. Also, here in Canada our Catholic schools are funded by the government, at least where I live. Yet, they still do all their sacraments, prayers, and Bible reading. I go to a Christian private school so I don't have to worry about anything.

In 1st through 6th grade, I thankfully never had to deal with this because I went to a private religious school. It was literally in the basement of a church. Then I got dumped into an enormous public school with 4 other public schools for middle school. I have plans to go to another private religious school for high school, though.

Either way, I support this blog.
