We all know that Sony's PS Vita wasn't exactly the most successful of their gaming devices. It was expected to takeoff, and do justice to the name PlayStation, but instead, it did quite the opposite.
Here are the PSP's first week of sales:
United States - .41 million units
Europe - .57 million units (had .27 million units more sales than the DS, by the way)
Japan - .17 million units
And here are the PS Vita's:
United States - .30 million units
Europe - .38 million units (.5 more than the 3DS)
Japan - .33 million units
Europe seems to love them some Sony.
Although the Vita sold more in Japan than the PSP in the first week of sales, it failed to even compare to the PSP's sales in Europe and the United States.
But with the PS4, could the Vita (which recently reached it's second birthday) finally start producing some money?
According to reports, the release of Sony's new PlayStation 4 has caused a massive change to the number of PlayStation Vita sales. Since the PS4, the Vita's sales rose dramatically by 68%, and then another 65% in the week following the release.
It's expected that this is due to the PS4's Remote Play feature, which lets you use your Vita as a monitor, or a second screen.

Oh yeah like you couldn't do double-screen with Wii U -_- Nintendo did it. Not Sony Entertainment. I mean if you wanna get all technical (I may be wrong), you could do a double-screen thing on the PS3 with the PSP. So its not old but I guess pretty new. Wii U triumphs! And yes, I own a Wii U.
I bought a Vita because I have money and was going to do someone Monster Hunter link-ups with mates.
It is the most pointless piece of junk anyone could own.

MH3U is on 3DS, not Vita.
MH4 is also only on 3DS.
MH4 has Zelda and Mario themed armors.

Yes, but Monster Hunter Freedom Unite isn't on 3DS.
It's an old PSP game so you don't even need a Vita.
You heard it here first folks. PS Vita's are used to play PSP games, Vita has no games.

Compare that 68% increase with the increases for every other electronic device (not just game consoles and handhelds) during this busy shopping season. I doubt that the jump had much to do with the PS4 as it did result seasonal shifts. Were there any "system sellers" for it lately (aside from the PS4 link-up ability)? The Wii U had a 320% jump in November, after the release of Super Mario 3D World. That seems more news-worthy (since it would be a comparison between slow-selling platforms). If you want to compare handhelds, the 3DS broke 1 million sales in the last week of November (which was a more dramatic jump than the Vita had), after the Legend of Zelda and Mario Party joined the line-up.
Some of those charts are very outdated, so they don't serve as a valid comparison. For example, the 3DS is well beyond 40 million units, but the lifetime chart shows just 16 million units.
Some possible system sellers that could've caused this are Minecraft and the Final Fantasy X and X-2 Remaster. Probably more because of the former, though.
And the global parts of that picture was to be ignored, I was just low on time and didn't want to crop it out. It's just a comparison of the first week of sales.
