Sup, doods? Got some sad news for y'all as Nintendo has just announced that they will be pulling the Wi-Fi plugs on all DS and Wii games on the 20th of May. Let's just establish what this means:
*No more Mario Kart Wii
*No more Super Smash Bros Brawl
*No more Pokémon (Even White & Black 2)
*No more Animal Crossing: Wild World
*All other reasons why you would still want to buy a Wii or DS, gone.
That's a pretty big deal if you ask me. Now I know this had to be done at some point during the Wii and DS life cycle, but this announcement came quite late. Then again, that's kind of Nintendo's trademark isn't it? "Late".
I felt like sharing this on the lovely SDK-community since I know MK Wii and Smash tournaments are still being held here. So, what's your opinion about this? I'm honestly not that disappointed since I don't own both consoles anymore. Plus, Mario Kart 8 will be launching in that same time period, following up with a new Smash Bros later this year.
Why why????
I have a Wii,Ds,dsi, Wii u. Xbox one and 360,commodore 64,3ds gameboy color and advanced (I have all gaming consoles) just to name a few but why. I recently recived Hyrule warriors (beta very) :p jealous much anyway it's good so far.
BUT: Not all NFC games are affected by this. I received that message on my Wii..The shops aren't affected, the least popular probably aren't affected, but yea...I felt like smacking the creator of nintendo.
Damn! I still play Animal Crossing: Wild World & Mario Kart.... That sucks but things can't stay the same forever even though sometimes ya might want them too. Thanks for the info. Good to know.
I put a redirect on the word Nintendo for more info about which games and what features will be affected by the removal of the old Nintendo WFC. In case you were wondering if you could still visit SDK with your DS/Wii or not, you can. :-p
Keep in mind that this is the older Nintendo WiFi platform, which was succeeded by the newer Nintendo Network with the current generation. Any games and applications for the Wii, DS, and DSi, that directly connect to the Internet are staying active. This includes the Web browsers, YouTube, Netflix, etc.

No it's not. Waffle didn't put on his glasses and read the fine text. Nintendo mentions the online functionality of DS and DSi SOFTWARE TITLES will be discontinued, not the Shops. Don't pay attention to him. He misleads the masses.

"DSiWare" refers to DSi downloadable games, which are tied to the Nintendo Wi-Fi system, which is shutting down.
The DSi Shop and Wii Shop Channel will remain open. Neither are considered "DSiWare".

Yeah, anything under the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" name is down, replaced by the new "Nintendo Network".
It's understandable, considering it's been 10 YEARS since the launch of the DS and 7 YEARS since the launch of the Wii. Wow. Time flies. However, they should still have the plugs on for the newer DS & Wii games still, such as B&W 2.

Why.WHY NINTENDO,WHY?!?!!!
Wait...Does that mean that no more Wi-fi Plaza or GTS in Pokémon?

Yep. Pokemon Black/White2 and below games' features, such as GTS, Wifi plaza and other wifi related features will cease to exist. X&Y will obviously be unaffected.
Now for somebody to go and reverse-engineer it all and make a replacement!
This sounds like a job for...
JSAFIVE! lol
