Respect for the Religion of Others

I'm getting sick of how cold-hearted and egotistical some members act toward the religion of other members. Someone recently posted a blog that asked for prayers because of the death of a family member. Although most respondents replied with support, a few members had the nerve to take shots at the religion of the poster.

I don't care if you are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto, Buddhist, pagan, athiest, Wicca, ancestor worshiper, or whatever. You may even pray to the moldy turnip in your compost heap - that is your right. Whatever your religion, whatever higher power, higher powers, or absence of higher power, you may revere... please respect that other people have a different faith than you do.

I will not tolerate personal attacks against other members here.

I agree with this blog. I'm sorry if i've been a "Bible Thumper", or pushed my religion onto someone.

even as a Christian, I'm great friends with some Athiests, Babtists, Mormons, Catholics, and even a Muslim. I respect others' religions, I just love talking about religions.

i love people of other religions. i may kid around with someone who is muslum and say "dont blow me up" but i love these people. (fun fact:most athiests are christians who didnt get a prayer answered)

1.Its not important they stopped. If they start up again, then I will inform you. I don't want to be a snitch. Unless it gets out of hand (more so than it already had).

2. Ya, im sorry, im really pasionate about things and interprit everything wrong. My minds cluttered being a 15 year old with finals coming up. Me saying that "the thought of deitys was stupid" was completly irrelevant and uncalled for. I'm sorry for my hatred, I try to change, but its easier said than done. I will try to be more optomistic from now on! I'm done trolling. After I actually hurt someones feelings I understand that even words typed through the internet can cause harm.

I have two points to make:

1. That is definitely not a valid ban reason. Which admin keeps banning you with reasons like that?
2. You are a troll. In any blog of religious nature, you bash those who believe in a diety. By pushing your religious views on others, you are no better than someone pushing views on you. I realize there are trolls of all religions, and this blog was meant to address that. It's just as much toward Christians telling non-Christians that they are going to Hell as atheists telling non-atheists that they are stupid for believing God.

Also, yet again @KOBY: I notice that you don't realize that Islam is the 3rd biggest religion, being behind Secular/Non-Religious/Agnostic/Atheists, only behind Christianity.

Yeah Hull, i agree with you but it is not really something that you can control with a site that has this many members. I mean i know that it is important to you. This blog is probly going to makethe harassing even more common because you are giving users the attention that they are asking for by there actions.

Everybody has something to say about Jehovah's Witnesses. Let me just say this:
Don't hide inside your own house when we come to the door. We aren't trying to hurt you. We don't have weapons on us. Heck, we aren't even trying to convert you. All we want is to fulfill our God-given comission, "Go and make disciples." So, if a Witness comes to the door, don't waste our time hiding. Walk up to the door, open it, and ina civilized and respectful manner say, "I'm sorry, but I'm not intrested." We won't get angry. I promise.

I just wanted to add that it is even worse to make fun of somebody's religion right when somebody close to them died. When I read that blog I couldn't really think of anything comforting to say [I'm not very good at comforting].. so I just didn't comment at all..

Jehova's Witness people are nice, but honestly, I'm Catholic already.

I'm all for this blog. Being what i am, I honestly can say, I'm sorry if this some how offends you Hull, that I like to come to this site to get away from hate and critasism. I know the admins critasise, but it's for a reason. I am always getting picked on, bullied, and messed with because of religion. Now knowing that people are doing this kind of thing, it saddens alot of people, me included.

That is technially part of free speech @WM but this is a privately owned website so they can make up the rules. I agree you shouldn't just attack anybody's religion [or lack of] It is rude and disrespectful. But if you start preaching or attacking sombody's religion then you'll have to be prepared for retaliation. As for door to door religion preachers, they're annoying. Going on somebody's propery and preaching is rude in my opinion. Besides WHO HAS EVER been converted that way?

@WM: I understand. Personally, I don't mind Jahova's Witness', they're pretty friendly. I just don't like Mr. 90-Something Pastor telling me that God's gonna come to my house and bash me into "hell"[which is no different for me now than it would be] and "condemn" me.

I'm still shocked I was an Alter-Boy for 2 years...

This is true. I don't have a relegion so I don't believe in anything. A little 8 year-old I know asked me if I believe in God and when I said no she backed off with this look on her face. She doesn't talk to me anymore. Why are people like that? Every person is the same no matter what! Some bullies keep saying to me to hurry up and choose a religion. MAYBE I DON'T WANT TO! Maybe I don't want to believe in a God! It kills me!

True, these types of attacks are very hurtful. In fact, here's a little expierience I had just recently.
On Saturday's(and other days, depending on your circumstances and abilities), Jehovah's Witnesses go out door-to-door to tell others about the good news of God's Kingdom. When walking up a certain driveway, a man in the second floor reached his head out of the window and said this.
"I know who you are, and I do NOT want you hear. Now step off my driveway."
Obediently, my brother and I backed away. Next he said,
"You two are Jehovah's Witnesses. You are misleading people about the truth about Jesus and you are twisting the Bible's words to fit your silly little doctrines. Now get off of my property, or I will call the police."
That made me pretty angry for a while. Religous prejudice isn't fun to deal with.

Ram, I agree. I hate the preachy kind! I've spent 8 years studying the ways of Jehovah Witness' and just hate when they get too cloar, if you know what I mean.

The people here are mostly Christians and it often feels like a religious site and not a DSi site lol

This was something I was very strict on at Hub, any insult at anothers belief was banned, without warning.

It is a very touchy subject that should not be talked about on a site who the majority are kids who just say stuff without thinking.

I'm not against anyone with needs for a religion, I just can't stand the preachy ones who come here to do that. I usually don't diss religions, I just don't believe in an "eternal after-life". I believe in Karma, if anything.

I am a humanist but I understand others need for religion.

Also, people do have the right to express their views, but they have the responsibility to do it in a tolerant and kind manner. If we can't speak nicely we might as well not be able to speak
