I have seen quite a few members get "beat up" over having & using Alts. I can understand why, Ban avoidance, Savi Points/Bucks Transfer... But, is it really that big of a deal if a User has an Alt?
I have an alt. It's just for the lulz. It's tehjew2. I just use it as my,"alter ego", my more evil personality. Admins don't care as long:
1) It's not for anything banworthy/ban aviodance.
2) You're not using the 2( or more) accounts at the same time.
Communism: You have more water, everyone has more water!
We do/should know when alts are accepted, and when they're not. From the general standpoint anyway. But beyond that, there are other problems.
- Use of an alternate account to create content (i.e. mail, comments, paint ratings) among accounts for anything from status and adminship to badges and records.
- The ethicality of an alternate identity, and from there the question of a false identity.
- Following up with the above, an account created solely for harassing--a "bad guy" account, if you will.
- Creation of alt after alt...after alt. Obvious database problems.
It is my opinion that alternate accounts, while allowed, should still be discouraged.
That's my point. If the average member has 3 alts, and you take into account that there are almost 50000 accounts on the site, that means there are only 12500 main members.
I have an alt, but that's only because I lost my password and the link in the e-mail didn't work. Then sometime in March I got the password back, thus an alt. But I'm giving it my friend. Alts are perfectly fine, as long as their not used for personal gain, ban avoidance, trolling, etc.
