NOt exactly. It's not saving much money. Right now AMerica needs to focus on stock market and more jobs. A shutdown doesn't help much, only about $2 billion.

@Teh: Wall Street screwed us up, then Bush bailed out all the banks with our money... I [naturally] like Obama's new plan to help with the debt; Raise taxes on the rich, and spending cuts. That removes roughly 4 Trillion of the debt, proposedly... Why is my spell-check bugging me that Proposedly" is not a word?!
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
That would mean that soldiers wouldn't get any pay, government-funded businesses would close(like muesuems, for example). Closing the government is the last thing we need.

Military would still be paid, as would "essential personnel". Unfortunately, the President abs Congress would still be paid. On the good side of it, Speaker John Boehner and others offered to return and pay, should the government shut down.
The USPS is still of vital importance, you know. So many things can only be done by mail. I really think it'd be silly of someone to sit in front o their computer, and get hit in the head by their package as it pops out the monitor. Hence, the Post Office is still an essential government service that shouldn't be shut.

I believe the USPS was on the "essential" list. Still, there are alternatives in UPS, FedEx, DHL, and other private couriers. We need to bring back the Pony Express and Western Union Telegrams. :-D
