Yangtze dam

there has been some contraversey and MEGA conflict in china about the Yangtze river, which VERY frequently floods and destroys homes. Government officials have decided to build a dam to stop flooding, ease up ship travel, and a clean energy source. Although the dam has many bad sides to it. The dam will raise water levels aboundantly, which will overflow plenty of cities, although the dam is built, there hasn't been much of an outcome yet. what's your opinion on the inpact the dam will have on chinese society?

Hmm, I need a bit more info. On what occasions have there been massive flooding incidents? How much will this cost? An ORGANIZED list of Pros and Cons?

okay okay xD the river has flooded time after time MANY TIMES we're talking almost near 700 im just guesing. PROS: it will let ships pass,
it will regulate flooding ↑important
it would give china hydroelectric and tidal power.
CONS: ppl will have to move from their homes
much of the land will be flooded
waste and sewage disposed in the river will STAY in the river
much of the 10% of china's usable farmland will be destroyed
it cost ALOT, cuz well itz about 7,000miles long and 200 ft. high, itz a massive dam, but it's akready been built

Hmm... Power-Wise? Yes. And, it will allow exporting, I'd imagine. However, doesn't seem to be THAT good of an idea...

Yeah, but, they have to relocate the locals, and abandon the farmland. It's not the best idea, in the short-term, and, potentially the long-term. And, that's ONLY if they act on it, and start using it efficiently for power.
