Recent studies show that if we cut back on a half of teaspoon of salt, we could save $26 BILLION in Health Care. The normal human consumes about 2300 mg of sodium, which is about a teaspoon of salt. But usually people eat more, like a teaspoon and a half.
Some companies are already taking the lead. Subway is cutting back majorily on putting salt on their subs, etc.
What's your guys' opinion?
Communism: You have more water, everyone has more water!
I disagree personally, however, financially, good idea. But, people can just buy extra table salt, y'know. I've no problem dumping extra salt on a burger, or a panini. BLASPHEMY. I'm a fan of salt.
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
This is a result of the National Sodium Reduction Initiative, a state and local government effort to reduce American salt intake by up to 20%. Sodium cutbacks are all well and good, but should not be imposed by authorities, in law or not. Once it becomes fairly widespread, the legal step will be next--another little way in which personal freedoms would be infringed upon. Corporations, businesses, individuals: they all have the right to decide what to manufacture, what to sell, what to eat. If regulation is to come, let it not be from the FDA looking over the industry's shoulder, but from the taking of industrial responsibility for personal heart health.
Of course, there's the argument that companies only care about making money, not the welfare of their consumers. Thousands dying of high blood pressure and heart attacks can lead to limited neglect, lawsuits, and dare I say, less consumers.
I believe it's really an American mindset that needs to change.
@Lim: True, they[companies] should take a little initiative on this. It would strengthen tryst from consumers. I personally don't always believe the "cold heartless corporation" idea. It depends on the commodity they are producing.
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
my mom is near death because of 1 thing, salt, shez a salt fanatic and beacause of that, shez gonna hav a stroke. if she stops, ther wil definately be some saved money o-o and i am staying on current events, just 2 make ur lives miserable @ram & syed
@Shadow: Well, that's a shame. Some things have sodium in them naturally, though. She should just avoid adding salt. Adding salt is the #1 cause for excess sodium intake.
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
