Reneez - McCain is a progressive Republican, which the left call a "neo-conservative". He would have taken the US in the same direction as Obama, just at a slower pace. A read during the election that an experiment was done where undecided voters had EEG wired to their brains while campaign speeches were played of all the major party candidates. Obama and McCain elicited the least brain excitement in viewers. The media just set up those two as the people to run and kept drilling the idea into people's heads of voting for them. Other powers were in play, too, but it was mostly the media picking the candidates that fit their agenda - not that of the American people.
